Holy Crap, Blue Devil Corvette for late 07

"With the latest supercar horsepower tango pouring out of Europe, GM can't stand to see the already potent 500hp Corvette Z06 gazed down upon as a second rate supercar. Instead GM is developing an alleged supercharged 600hp Z06 with carbon fiber components dubbed the "Blue Devil" as reported by Autoweek in a recent interview with General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz. With a curb weight hovering around 2900 lbs. and a price tag starting at $100,000 the European competition should be breaking into a cold sweat as the Blue Devil seen here making laps around Germany's Nurbürgring passes by." -WorldCarFans.com

"Blue Devil"

"Chevrolet has long worked on developing an ultra-high performance version of the Corvette. Since the Z06 competes with the Dodge Viper and many European imports, the Blue Devil will probably be as fast, or faster than, most supercars available today. It was dubbed Blue Devil by the engineers in an attempt to greenlight production because the mascot of GM CEO Rick Wagoner's alma mater, Duke University is the Blue Devil. The car is rumored to be set for production in mid/late 2007 as a 2007 or 2008 model year car. It reportedly[1] features a supercharged version of the LS7 engine producing 600 hp (447 kW). Carbon fibre body panels reduce overall weight to well below 3000 lb (1360 kg). Pricing is expected to be in excess of US$100,000. It is however not known if it will even be a concept car, let alone a production car. With the current Z06 model current turning in 0-60 times in the mid 3 second range, one can only speculate as to how quick this car can be with another 100+ h" - Wikipedia.com

It is also believed that It might be 650 HP instead of 600HP. This is just too amazing, not only will this corvette weight about 300 pounds less, it will have an additional 150HP!!!

I thought a corvette (current z06) that weighed 3130 pounds and had 505 HP kicked ***, now imagine what this car will do???

^ How can I say that? It wasn't difficult to say at all. I am Asian American and consider myself half American. I will take it back...I like American cars except GM. Fords and Dodges are fine, but no matter what car it may be, I am not too found of GM products Personal experience, I guess.

I think generalizing the corvette with "Typical GM product" is very ignorant.

That thing is going to be a beast. Maybe as fast as the Koenigsegg CCX???

At a ratio of 4.46lbs/hp it would seem that keeping traction would be a limiting factor. Unless they include race slicks as standard equipment.
Sounds like a beast. It would be fun to drive!!!!

I'll take the Z06 over the GT-R, unless some miracle happens and that robotic front end gets a redesign. The Blue Devil will be scary fast~

Japanese cars are fun too, but there is nothing like a powerful muscle car. It is intimidating, bold, and fast. The vette is a more refined muscle car, with sexy lines and creature comforts comparable to most higher end imports. This blue devil will be crazy fast as well! Since I cannot afford one, and am a mustang fan...I will save for a GT500 next year.

...I like scary fast as well!!

LMAO....

Surely you can't be serious. ... breaking a sweat. It will take much more than a Chevrolet to make the Europeans break a sweat. I can't believe people actually buy these overpriced Chevy's and Dodges (Vipers)....

"Blue Devil".... LOL

Are you serious?? Im neither bias towards either the european market or the American market, but you are taking this vette too lightly.

Since when has the Vette been overpriced for what you get?? Name off a few cars comparable in price with equal performance.

Blue Devil spy photo...

Here's a spy shot of one. It's all personal preference - not a big domestic fan myself, but I think at their top end - GT500, Z06 Vette, Viper - that the domestic measuring stick goes out the window.

At that price though, I'd probably rather go German - but that's just me.

I guess you are only half American if you don't get excited about a 600+hp car that weighs less than 3000lbs and is somewhat obtainable. The GTR will be exciting but will probably weight close to 4000lbs and my guess is that it won't even make regular Z06 power but will cost the same or more. You should give credit where it's due whether it's American, Japanese, German, or whoever.

I am 100% American born and raised, and I don't really care for most American cars, but the c6 Zo6 is no joke. It ain't your daddy's corvette it is a whole different breed of corvette. Watch the episode of topgear with the zo6 in it, and then you will figure it out.

I 2nd some of what you say. I however, dont believe that the GTR will be anywhere near 4000 lbs. I DO believe the car will have excellent handling with Lotus building the suspension. The acceleration should be qutie thrilling, but to say it will beat a Z06 may be a bit hasty. I still dont know an exact price tag on the GTR, but if it were priced the same as a Z06, it would be up to the buyers preference in terms of what they want the car for.

You could still (more so) safely take a GTR out in the inclimate weather (yeah I know, why would you want to do that to the beautiful car). If it were more for a track car though, the Z06 seems to be the winner there. I wouldnt doubt that the Z06 gets better gas mileage than the GTR also. The GTR will likely have a more appealing interior also, but this can go on for quite a while longer. There are a lot of differences between the two cars. Which is better depends on what is important to you.
