New BMW 335i sedan is as fast as current M3 and 650i!

Here is the official 0-1000m (standing km) time for new 335i. This was tested with 335i coupe but the sedan will have nearly same number

e46 m3 smg/manual :24.2s
e92 335i manual : 24.5s
e92 335i auto : 24.6s
650i auto 24.5s

The new 335i is only 0.3 sec slower than current E46 M3 and tied with 360hp V8 650i. Wow..... I drove my friend's M3 several times and test drove 650i once, and it is unbelievable that 335i can run with them. For $40k, I think 335i is almost a bargain.

And the 335i automatic is only 0.1 sec slower than the manual!

The new 335i is one seriously fast coupe/sedan. I'm not sure if the new G35 can keep up with it even with the 306 hp engine.

Before BMW announced 335i sedan for this fall, I was leaning toward the new G35. But now it looks like I'll be in 335i sedan before end of this year.

Since base price for 335i sedan will be $38,700, the final price will be $40,300 if I only add the Sport Pkg. The Xenon, sunroof and Logic7 stereo will be already standard on 335i, so I don't care about other options that I'll hardly ever use.

I'm a little concerned about the new G too. Not that everything is about speed, but with 306hp and under 280tq and of course NA.... well, I just don't think it'll be close and of course there isn't a lot of room to grow. Infiniti is going to have to push really hard on the value side, imo.

I'm sure the new 335i will be dynamically superior to both new G35 and Lexus IS350. I mean, the 335i sedan is as fast as the 550i and 650i that have 360hp V8 and priced well over $60k. Will new G35 can match that? I doubt it.

So Infiniti should offer significantly better value on G35 to win customer from Lexus and BMW.

This is just a indication of what a monster the new ///M3 will be

For those who haven't seen the new upcoming BMW 335i sedan, it will have dual exhaust pipes, similar to G35. And minor interior upgrades, such as metallic accent on the steering wheel and knobs.

Check out the hp and torque curve on this 335i. It's dead flat at 300 lb-ft between about 1200 rpm alll the way up to 5000 rpm. And their advanced twin turbo has absolutely zero turbo lag as proven by many experts.

Another factor between new 335i and new G35.

Even with 45hp and 80lb-ft improvement over the current 330i, the new 335i will have SAME gas mileage, accordig to BMW. This means this 335i will have 20 mpg in city and 30 mpg on highway.

For comparison, the current G35 has 19 mpg in city and 26 mpg on highway. Even if the new 2007 G35 can keep the same mpg, the new 335i clearly has edge, which is big deal with gas price well over $3/gallon.

BMW also offer full maintenance for 4 years, which includes EVERYTHING.

I used to own G35 coupe and its gas mileage was really bad.

Well.. yeah, the 335i is faster... but if you are paying even close to $40k for a G35 you are getting robbed. Also, BMW reliablity is going to be fun here... my friends mom just got an M3 and the transmission already grenaded and the entire exhaust is rattling after the transmission was replaced. Think about a BMW with turbos! I don't think the "BMW experience" (read making very good friends with your dealer) is worth it for anything except an M. At least they do cover everything, otherwise I'd never consider their cars.

Oh, and that dyno chart has to, at the very least, have HEAVY smoothing applied... Engines just aren't that consistant. I'm not trying to say the torque curve isn't good, it's just not actually like that picture shows.

About time they spiced up the 3 series. Other than the M3, the 3 series suffered from a shortage of power. No longer so. You can be certain that the G35 and the Lexus IS350 had a hand in this. BMW broke with tradition here by going turbo. Not out of desire but I suspect out of necessity.

Well they definitely could have gone the Nissan/Toyota route and upped the displacement and power - they have an inline 6 that puts out over 330hp right now. I think the issue was the weight balance. The current engine + turbos weighs 6lbs more than the block in the 330i, so they've kept their 50/50 balance.

As for reliabilty; we'll see. BMW reliabilty issues have always been overstated. They've been above average in the industry for years. Everyone knows someone with a crappy car. Our BMW's gone 4 years and 51k km without an issue, so I'm satisfied.

The pic of that sedan looks really good, I like it alot. Would you guys guessimate that a simliarly equipped 335i Sedan will be about $8k more than an 07 G Sedan?

I'm sold. I haven't decided whether it's worth hanging onto my G35 lease until Summer 2008 when it goes up or if I should dump it early in favor of this lusty new 335i

I'm going to guess 6k; only because I think the '07 sedan will see a price increase.

I don't think the fuel mileage is that big of a deal. The city ratings are almost the same, which means the average city/highway ratings will be closer between the two cars than the highway rating. Even a worse case scenario, assuming 100% highway driving, if you drive 12,000 highway-only miles, the BMW will cost you $1,200 in gas versus $1,385 in the G35 at $3/gallon. I don't think $185 a year is a big deal for most people who can afford a $40k+ vehicle.

The better mileage is nice to have, but I don't think the G35's worse mileage is a deal breaker.

Arghhh....jeez Kevin....what to do now? Just when when I was set on the 07 G Sedan, the 335i Sedan is announced.

I already have a deposit on an 07 G, but that new bimmer looks absolutely sweet! If you are somewhat accurate and it is only $6k, that is not all that much difference IMO.
