For those keeping score -1 Enzo

"Another ultra-rare Ferrari Enzo has been written off in spectacular fashion. No mystery ‘Dietrich’ was involved… driver Richard Losee was taking part in the Utah Fast Pass Road Rally, a four-day charity drive.

The Enzo was just one of the high-end cars testing its mettle on State Route 257, when the driver lost control of his $1.3 million exotic at around 100 mph in southwestern Utah. A 15 mile length of the highway had been closed as part of the event for the well-heeled. Losee was flown to a Provo medical center and admitted with broken bones (and presumably a badly bruised ego)."

This car reports so many accidents due to likely inexperienced drivers. I guess when you have that much power to deal with, you truly need training to know the ins and outs

This guy had driven over 16,000 miles on his Enzo before this crash. He had experience with the car. Ferrari won't let you buy one unless you have a history of prior Ferrari ownership, and are a 'preferred' Ferrari customer. That doesn't apply in the used market of course, which is where that moron Erickson bought his in Mailbu and crashed. But I'm pretty sure this guy in Utah bought his Enzo new from Ferrari. Mistakes happen, but I don't think it was due to a lack of experience with a high powered car in this case.

It could have been just as likely to be mechanical failure as driver error that caused this crash.

Familiarity and high-speed training are two different things. I had 16,000miles on my 350Z, but could I drive it on a street at 155mph and maintain control? [Hint: the answer rhymes with "D'oh!"]

I think owners of these cars seriously think money implies driving skill.

Lol, it wouldn't be the first time someone made that mistake.

Hurts to look at that mess.....

Understood, but I don't think people buy Enzo's to get groceries in.

It would be interesting to know if he had any track experience, or performance driving training.

For those who are Road and Track readers, Losee is the fella who has generously contributed on several occasions for R&T. He has raced cars his entire life or thereabouts. Charity event, closed course.

But hey, let's accuse him of not having a clue what he's doing or perhaps DWI, shall we?

Nice to read in your face news like this for a change and not cheap shots.

A bit more regarding Mr. Losee, for those who aren't R&T readers. His articles for R&T just make you want to like the guy. First, when Ferrari won't assist the magazines in capturing data or writing a full report on what for the time was the greatest supercar of all time (no debates please, call it Ferrari's greatest effort to date, or whatever else suits...), he provides his car to the mag, no holds barred, for a solid thrashing. ["Sure fellas, take my million dollar sports car and shred some basically "prototype" tires (not at all like the 050s that we get for our Gs) and CC brakes"] Then he drives the Enzo cross country, logging more miles than many of us have on our Gs, and starts a "long term test" of sorts the likes of which no mag has ever produced. This is no Jetta he's flogging. The he mods his car, with some wheels and a different roof/door arrangement to give him a "convertible" of sorts (I can see the guys in Maranello just falling on the floor on that one )
So here's a guy who, instead of making his Enzo into a coffee table, or modern art, is hammering this baby the way that it's namesake would have wished for all his supercars. And he's doing stuff to it, instead of ensuring it will retain all it's original value, treating it like a car instead of an investment.
And he's sharing that with us shmoes, instead of keeping it within the realm of the rich and famous. And finally, he's taking it to charity events, where I'm sure his stable of other cars would offer safer pickings.

I for one can't help but have a heap of respect for an enthusiast like him. I hope the folks here on the boards can too.

Cheers,
Derek
