G handling vs 3er handling

A lot of the magazines have been saying the G35 handles as well or ALMOST as well as the bmw 3 series, but when you think about it, the G is much bigger and still manages to keep the weight almost the same as the 3 series! How come they never mention that the handling is so good for a car that is so much larger? I bet if the 3 series was the same size as the 07 G, it probably wouldn't handle as well!

Possibly because external size (LxWxH) of itself has little to do with handling. Wheelbase and track do affect handling, and the new G35 has a wheelbase 3.5" longer than the 3-Serіes sedаn, but that's a relatively minor difference compared to the other factors (tіres, suspensіon design and tunіng, etc.) that affect handling.

A longer wheelbase is good for high speed stability but not as good for autocross, tight-type circuits. On a road course, the wheelbase difference between the two would mean almost nothing compared to what you stated on parentheses.

It's more to do with mass, than physical dimensions.

I think the question really should be....
How does Infiniti keep the mass down for the size of the car?
It compares more to the size of the 5er, yet weighs in at 3er levels

Strangely enough, the 530i is listed as 3472lbs and the 335 is listed as 3593lbs

Actually if you look at the comparison in the recent Motor Trend or Car and Driver Magazine ( I'm certain it was Motor Trend), they did relate to the size difference and how it might have a difference in their performance test. However, rite after they made it clear size was not the only factor in performance. So to make a long story short, same size or not they felt the 3 series would have won against the G35.

How is the weight distribution of the G35? I know the 3 series is close to 50/50

I thought I remember reading somewhere the the weight distribution for the 07 G is 52/48. Not 100% sure though.

Actually, I stand corrected. As per C&D's review, it is 53.3/46.7.

Look I own both and my G handles better than my 3 series with sports package. I have aftermarket shocks and springs on both so they are lowered. I have 19 with 265 in the back on the 3 series and 17 with 245 on the back for the G and the G holds the turns better with out drifting. Now I will say that if you put sways on a 3 it will out handle a g with sways... Just my 2 cents

G reponds very good to any suspension mod. Even with just lowering the car u can see dramatic difference in handling.
