my impression of the 07 G35 sendan and my test drive of the new 335i coupe!!

hey all, sorry to have another 07 G and 335i impression thread but i still want to share some of mine with everyone. hope u guys dont mind!!
i was away to asia for the past two months and have been reading about the new G sedan and the wonderful 335i coupe but havent had a chance to check them out (let along test drive) in person.

well, i got my chance this past weekend. went into Infiniti of Tysons and saw the new G sedan. looks better than the pictures i have seen and the interior quality sure is alot better than the 1st gen Gs(i have an 05 IP 6speed G coupe.) they only had one sample G sedan in the showroom so i couldnt get a test drive, however, i was pretty impressed with the quality and the look of the new car. the 1st gen G sedan is just plain ugly but this one looks alot better and the interior feels more Lexus than Nissan. however, i may be the only one but i actually like the design of my G coupe's dash better than the new G's. yeah, the new car's quality of materials used is better but i just dont like the design. it's more M class like than sporty. i like how ours is more simple yet elegant and sporty.
the seats are alot more confortable, obviously got alot more features and gizmos. it was an automatic so i couldnt get a feel of the manual but i have read in C&D mag that the new manual tran is very good (better than bmw?).

Overall, im pretty impressed with the improvements and from what i have read in mag reviews the new sedan is alot quicker than the 1st gen sedans and coupes (yeah, kinda upset about that.. we got jipped on the hp..lol). with the new hp rating system, i think our so called "298hp" engine is actually putting out about 275hp now. however, the new 306hp is "legit". it's gonna be pretty even with the IS350 if not tad bit quicker. unfortunately i couldnt get a test drive to see how the handling and the driving dynamic is compare to our 1st gen Gs.. but from the reviews i have read, the new G is very good. i cant wait for the chance to test drive them.

now with the BMW. i bought my G used at my local bmw dealership and im pretty cool with the boys there. i went in this saturday to check out the new 335i coupe and as i was sitting inside the car, the finance manager came out and gave me the key and told me to take it out for a spin (i was a bit surprised since i really didnt expect him to let me drive their new baby plus knowing that i wanst there to buy the car since i just got my G from them 4 months ago). anyhow, i took the car out and MAN, what a sweet ride.

my friend has a 04 M3 and that thing sure is a beast. i have read that the new 335i is pretty close in performance to the E46 M3 (bmw under rated the 335i performance) so i was very eager to findout myself.
first of all, the look of the car is pretty nice. im very glad it's nothing like the E90 sedan which is just plain disgusting. the new coupe is very smooth and much more appealing to my eyes, altho it still doesnt look as sexy as the E46 M3.
the interior is very nice too altho it looks pretty similar to all the other new bmws. the design of it is alot better than the G in my opinion. it just feels more German and thats a good thing. the new G's interior quality may be up to par now, but the design to me really isnt all that.

i test drove the automatic with paddle shift (the only 6 speed manual on the lot was been test driven by some other guy so didnt get a chance to try it) and sure am impressed. it's very well paired with the new turbo engine.
the car pulls very hard but smoothly. the power is just instant and constant. altho it's "only" listed as 300hp, the torque of that thing is just awsome and sure feels alot quicker and more responsive than my G. handling is pure bmw.. smooth yet direct..unlike toyotas/lexus. the only time i feel a tiny bit of turbo lag was when reflooring the gas peddle after a take up.. altho it could be cuz the automatic trans, which i always belive is just not as responsive as a traditional manual.. or it could just be cuz it was such a new car. either way, very impressed with the new turbo engine and the instant power it delievers.

Overall, love the car. it may not be as responsive to my friend's M3, but it was very very close. i couldnt do a very thorough high speed test on the new 335i but im pretty sure with the added torque, it's gonna be very very close in performance to the E46 M3. and now, with a starting price of $40k, it sure sounds like a bargain to me. you can get a nicely equipped 335i for about $45k and a fully loaded one for lil over $50. sure it's no small change but compare to the old M3, it's a steal.

after driving the 335i im even more dissapointed with my G's power. my car now feels even heavier and slower. with more and more quicker/faster cars coming out, i feel like my G is losing its ground. i just saw the performance of the Mazdaspeed 3 on C&D.. even that's quicker than our G.. waz up with that? and it's only selling for like $23k..
it's about time to save up for that Vortech.

decisions decisions.. either i keep my G and wait to put a FI in.. or look to trade it in for a 08 Gcoupe (we'll c how that thing turns out) or a 335i coupe.

on a side note, i also saw the new 335i Sedan.. yup, they have that same turbo engine in the E90 sedan too.. guess our G and IS350 wont stand a chance in either sedan or coupe class no more...

Dude both cars are only putting out like 3 bhp more then the G coupe. Thats nothing. I drove the 335i coupe and yeah its nice but it aint THAT much nicer than my G.... I had the option to buy either and I took the G for the price tag and superior style and comparable performance. The BMW is kind of farty when you look at it. Maybe you need to give your G a tune up and oil change so you can remember why you fell in love with it. No way I am getting smoked by a 335i coupe while in my G. :P

Although I do agree with you that the G's exterior , even at already near 4 years old, STILL looks better than any of BMW's current offerings, I dont mean to burst your bubble, but a 335i will all out hand your *** to you.

I test drove the 335i and yea it was nice, but if you dropped another 10grand into your G35 you would have more power in the end. Now the handling on it was perfect. But I thought the clutch the mushy..

I have a 2006 coupe and the Vortech kit is not ready for my car yet, at least that is what I hear. It has something to do with software and fuel management. If you wait for the 2008, and then to add a vortech to it, you will probably wait until 2010, I just don't have that kind of time or patience. If I were you I just hang on to my G and do the vortech, which is what I plan on doing. I will have a couple of years to beat the new G's, and by the time the new vortech, stillen or whatever comes out for the new G's I will be ready to get my new G with the FI installed and warranted by the dealer.

Just my 2¢

You can't talk about "not smokin you"
& use the *new* G35 mag data to back it up

After some options, those 335i Coupes are practically $50K. Plus, they look like a two-door sedan, and the interior design will get blown away by the '08 G35 Coupe.
