Volkswagon Question
Hey Folks,
So my wife just bought a 2006 VW Jetta (2.5L) and we hit 5000 miles on it. Time to change the oil, no problem. I change the oil, and look through the manual for a way to reset the annoying SERVICE NOW! light on the computer display. The manual says I need to take it to a dealer. BullSH*T. At any rate, I got on the VW forum and there are a bunch of lame-arses there that can't answer the question. So I'm wondering my fellow G owner who are clearly smarter than VW owners have any thoughts on this! Thanks, C |

Dig thru your tool box and get a 2" piece of black electricians tape and stick it over the light. Worked great for the "Service Engine Soon" light in my old Chevy.

Grabbed this from a VW board. Hope it works.
With the key out of the ignition: - press and hold the "reset button for trip odometer" on the dash. -turn key to the "ignition ON" posstion (terminal 15 power) wiat for "wrench" symbol to appear in the odometer display. then release the "reset button for trip odometer" and press the "MIN" button on the opposite side of instrument cluster. To verify service interval has been reset: -Breifly hold the "reset button for trip odometer" again. -The "wrench" symbol will appear together with the reset number of miles/kilometer you can drive untill the service due date. the display changes after about 10 seconds. a "clock" symbol appears together with the reset number of days untill the service due date. Grabbed this one from another VW site and it appears to be the same. 1. With key off, press and hold the trip reset button. 2. Turn key to on but do not start. 3. While still holding trip reset, press the clock minute button. This resets the reminder. I saw this on another site for cars equipped with MFD's and tried it on mine and sure enough, it worked. |

Kept hearing about how bad Jetta's were from friends.
Stopped by the VW dealership and saw where they were actually made....
