07 G35 vs. 07 LS350 vs. 07 335i - again - sorry

Sorry for bringing it up again, but maybe this info will help somebody.

A friend at work got a new 335i loaded with Nav, Sport, Premium, etc. She said the buy price was around $49K. Unbelievable acceleration...and smooth as a baby's you know what. Really nice car, but not sure it's worth the $$$.

Drove an LS350 today. Nice car, but it just doesn't have any sex appeal. It's comfortable, quiet, etc., but that's about it. When you gun it, it almost sounds like a 4 cylinder revving up. Probably a good car for some.

I've driven the 07 G35 and was very impressed. Need to drive it again to make sure it's the car I want. Best value out there...by far!!!

Do you mean the LS Series or the IS350?

There is nothing to be sorry about. This is a very valid discussion.

I meant the ES350; not the LS350.

Depends what you looking for.

If pure power/potential and handling - 335i. And I'd go with a coupe only since not much rear space in the sedan.

If rear space needed then I'd choose G35 over 335i sedan along with money savings. BTW, handling/power/interior is adequate which was improved over old G35.

If you want to fall asleep ES350

I'm one of the folks who went for the 335i coupe. The test drive is what got me to pull the trigger. Let's face it, anyone who loves cars wants to own a BMW at some point in their life, but what point? Age 20? 30? 40? 50? 60? Never, give up the dream? It really comes down to money...we're talking a bonafide 8,700 difference between the G35 and 335i coupe, apples to apples. If you compare the 328i coupe then the difference becomes smaller, 5,400 more for the BMW. The problem there is the HP difference between the G35 and 328. Nobody seems to talk about the 328, not on the BMW forums, not here, not even a "most" researched car on kbb.com. DOH!

I almost always go after value, I wont spend extra money just to get the best...marginal benefit is never there in such a decision. I made an exception on the house, where I thought it made sense over the long run. And now I've made the same decision on the car--let go of the 8,700, took a lot of doing. I've seen some people say, "I've got the money, that wasn't the deciding factor. But I decided to get the G35 because it's better, I knew once I drove it." I'm the opposite, I know the BMW is the better car, it's not worth it, and it was hard to let go of the extra money. But it feels good to do so. I can always make the money back. And I don't want to be 40, 50, 60 when I finally got the car I really wanted....my .02.

I traded a E46 for my 2003 Coupe. Still, to this day and after 83k miles, I still look for an excuse to drive. That's passion! Get whatever car that makes you feel that way. I added a Vortech at 79k miles and the engine burns no oil! It's elegant and uptown when I need it to be and downright raucnchy and raw at other times. With the power I have now, the car has been transformed to a level of luxury and performance not unlike the AMG/M series cars.

This is my thought process too....I know at some point I will want/have a BMW, but at 26, I'm in no need for it right now (because of the extra cost). I'm guess if I keep this car 3-5 years, then somewhere when I'm around 30-32, I'll try and pick up a bimmer... (mebbe the M5 that's been a dream of mine)...

I think you're using your head...there's plenty of time for you to get the car you want. For now, a 2k7 G35 is big on value...just seems tough to get a manual.

The money will never be nothing, short of any of us becoming rock stars or pro athletes. Me, I seem to be a 8-10 yr. type of person on keeping a new car. So if I got the Infiniti today, I'd be past my mid 40's when I revisit this car-buying issue. And I thought everything could also be different by then, financially, having a family, etc. I lost sleep with my decision the first night, but now of course I want the car yesterday. Should be on a ship shortly and here by early Dec. Want to see money just evaporate? The consensus seems to be that one should take the $750 tire protection package on a BMW, because the RFT tires cannot be repaired like a regular tire. Run over a nail? bye-bye $300 tire...I never take such warranties but will...add another $750 to the price of the car...

My cousin wants a 2k2 M5, but those bad-boys aren't even down to 40k yet, and they are serious maintenance...$$$. I've dropped in on a M5 forum, and they are not at all like us, but why should they be? They buy 87k cars...one would have to be well off to be driving something that costs well over $1/mi. to operate! I do like their 2k7, 6MT vs. 7SMG debate though!

Interesting post but wrong forum. This should be posted in other cars as it doesn't relate to the '07 sedan.

BMW is a good car maker - no doubt there. But put their pricing into factor and all of the sudden any Bimmer becomes an overpriced muffin. Certainly not a brand that *ANYONE* would want to own.

I love cars, and BMW has never been on my top list. Maybe Porsche...

I think BMW takes advantage of their name to overprice a product that readily available from other competitors at lower prices and maybe in some areas - better products. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the 07' G turns out to be the car that beat the 3 series.

Time will tell. Until then, I'll pocket those $7,000-$8,000, thank you very much.
