Drove 07 G and 335i

I went to motorwerks in Barrington Il and drove the new sedan and the new 335. The new G's interior and exterior is downright amazing! I drove an IP 6MT - oh so beautiful. The interior is a giant step forward from my 05. The seats are as supportive as my 03 coupe. The interior has LED's that light the center console and door handles - very cool. The gauge cluster is awsome as well. The bright white lights and blue accent lights are really cool. The shifter is much smother than my 05 sedan. The engine felt stronger and smoother. With three people in during the test drive I could get 2nd and third gear scratches. I loved it.

Than I drove the 335i.

The BMW's exterior and interior is no comparison to the G. While the exterior is ok, the interior is blah. The seats were not as comfortable, gauge cluster is bland and the center stalk was bare and boring. The BMW was solid, it felt the same as the G, but not as confident in turns. But the suprise was the acceleration. That thing was flat out faster the 07G and would kill my 05G.

While the G was great overall, the BMW's engine was fantastic. Very little (read barely noticable) turbo lag, it pulled like a raped ape and sounded like a pit bull during acceleration. If the G had that engine, it would be the perfect sport sedan.

Given everything, if I were in the market for new sedan the G would be my choice. But I like bargains. And the G is a bargain that is still 5 stars. But the 335i is faster. Much faster.

Between the two I think I would take the G and put a mild twin turbo on it. You would still be a few grand less than the BMW and have a lot more power.

the new 335i can only really be compared to the new '08 coupe coming out. the bimmer will probably still be faster, but who knows, infiniti might turn it around, and make teh coupe significantly lighter than the sedan.

I disagree, but it's a subjective thing. The fit/finish on the 335i coupe blows the Infiniti away imho, you didn't say if you're talking about a coupe or sedan. No exposed wires on the rearview mirrow, sport seats are way more supportive and high quality, shifter is long and tight. The G35 door panels are cheesy, whereas the 335 had nice black and red leather. When you say barely noticable turbo lag, I suggest you drive the car again. It's doing 300 ft. lbs of torque at 1400 rpm up to 5000, there is no lag, where would it be? From 800 to 1400 rpm?

I know this debate wont go away, but the truth is there's no real comparison, and it's an 8,700 difference.

I'm just trying to picture it, one sits in a new 335 coupe, and immediately thinks, gosh, this interior and exterior just cannot be compared to the G. Huh???? Mine was WOW.

Why is that hard to believe? You make it sound like the 335i is the car of all cars and that everyone should like it. Just like you said, it is very subjective.

The 335 can never be the car of all cars as you put it, it's priced too high to be that. It's rather strange, however, to say it cannot compare to a G35 both from the interior and exterior point of view. Very strange.

^^^+1 I agree with Shane. The author of this thread gave his opinion, why is that hard to believe. I have heard of others with the same opinions after their test drive. One thing for sure though, it is unaminous that the power of the 335 is absolutely awesome and is there at any speed.

His comment was that the 335's interior and exterior cannot compare. And for the third time, that is hard to believe. I would say it's the other way around, and have. Regardless of which car you like, drive, own, etc., I'd rather err to the side of objectivity.

Good luck spending extra $8000 for an imaginary (psychological effect) better interior...

I must of read your comment incorrectly or something becuase I think the G's interior and exterior compares very well against the 335i. Anyways, this subject has been beaten to death........

That is a contradiction in terms, because it is impossible to say that someone is "erring" on the side of objectivity while suggesting that another person is not.

I find it funny that Infiniti is always compared to a car that costs almost 1/4 more in price.
