How's GTO?
From the date GTO came out, i thought it would be a big hit. It got muscle and good look, especially the latest V8 generation. Unfortunately, it got discountined (or soon). What do you think?

Yeah, this should be in the Other Cars section. In any case, I think the GTO looks completely uninspiring. It looks pretty much like every other plain ole GM product and I would rate it a 1/10 in the looks dept. Just my opinion.

YYUUKK the GTO was completely a dissapointment, with such a nice engine and power displacement, the manufacturer totally dropped the ball by making it look somewhat like a GranPrix...Hello Dodge, Ford was bringing back old popular cars and bulding them to what the past model looked like, now you get the GTO and it doesnt look nothing like the past popular model, they tryed to make a pretty vehicle with alot of power, C'mon, GTO buyers dont want that, they want a Muscle car that looks means as Sh** like the past model did, my $.02

the only complaint that i have about that car is the there no footrest on the 6MT version and the steering response. Everything else is great about that car. Power, handling is better than a lot of people think, and it has great seats and okay interior.

The styling is what killed it. Pontiac needs to give up on their signature twin kidney grill. It works for BMW, but it makes every Pontiac look boring. If they get rid of that design element, they would have a lot more styling flexibility to create some nice designs. It looks good on the Solstice, but that's about it. Put it on a larger car, and it reminds people of a Grand Am or Grand Prix rental car from the 1990's.
Still, if you could deal with the boring styling (not ugly, just boring), the GTO was one of the best performance bargains out there, especially if you bought one at a discount from a dealer anxious to move inventory. Where else could you find 400hp for so little? |

Th original GTO was a slightly buffed up Tempest/LeMans and was somewhat a plain jane. As the GTO evolved, it got meaner and more muscular looking. By 1969, the GTO Judge had panache, a great motor and a good street credibility.
Pontiac screwed up with the first year model with 350 hp and no hood scoops. Had they put the ram air hood on with better looking wheels and styling upgrades, it would have been a decent car. It was the most inexpensive car you could buy with 400 hp. Hopefully, the next one that comes out will be true to the original.

IMHO, if Pontiac had kept the Holden Monaro's more aggressive styling cues and simply called it something other than "GTO" it would've done better. The interior is far above typical GM standards; performance-wise it's a beast and very friendly to mods. Oddly enough, the car appeals more to young 20-somethings than the 40+ yr old nostalgia customers Pontiac was banking on.
It's rumored GM is looking to tap Holden for future high-performance RWD coupe and sedan platforms.

Seemed like it was a good performing car....just looks awful.
Even the modified ones still are horribly boring to look at. It's a shame.
