06 g coupe vs cayman S

Hey guys,

So i got a new 06 coupe in 6mt and it is by far one of the best cars ive driven. The other day i test drove a cayman S and wasnt very inpressed. Porsche seems to be very modest with torque, esp on the low end with their cayman S. There wasn't any quick delivery of power like the G has at 3k rpms. Instead the porsche needed to be reved past 4k/5k for it to pick up any power. By no means was it slow but i feel like our cars have a stronger feel for torque. I guess what im really saying is i love that feel of your head hitting the head rest when you shift at high rpms and feeling like your pinned to the back of your seat~ im sure other porsche models are faster, but as far as the cayman goes... its no head banger~

However, the cayman definetly had a smooth clutch and shift. The clutch response was similar to the G but it definetly shifted alot smoother. I dont know why but i feel our cars really have a rough shift. Ive driven my share of manual cars, from 96 accords to s2000's to 350z's but i get a little insulted everytime i have a passenger and i see their head bob a little when i shift gears. Anyone know if a short shifter or new flywheel will correct this? We drive $40k cars, it should drive like one.

sorry for the long post but i thought id share...plus i want to know if that shifting could be made "smoother" . any input will be great!

caymans are purposely geared higher in first and second by porsche so that its numbers are not better than the 996 (911's).

thats true, its pretty much just marketing. it wouldnt make sence for one of their entry level sports cars to be faster than the next class up. they would loose sales from other models and profit. Thats why the 911 and 911 turbo have numbers like they do. same thing as bmw's 335 twin turbo and new m3. why pay 50K+ for an m3 when you can get the 335 for 40K? thats why companies dont tune their cars to full potential. haha sorry i dont know if that makes sence but i just wanted to share my input on how much i love our cars over other "high end" sports cars.

and cayman S are faster than our G's but not really by much. Ive taken out a boxster by few car lengths but then again, the boxster isnt even a boxster S and its a convertible so its heavier.

i just thought the cayman S would be more impressive considering its name.. Porsche~ oOOoOoOooo haha j/k it aint all that!!

Our G35's are best bang-for-the-buck compared to the Cayman S.

The 2007 Cayman S's have a new engine which makes them sub 5 second catagory. Pretty fast and impressive. Good handling too.

I wouldnt mind having a Cayman S... im just not sure if im willing to pay for it with so many other choices out there.

Of course any Infiniti will be a better value than any Porsche since their pricing philosophy is to charge what the market will bear. To see how far Porsche has carried this philosophy they charge more for their coupe than for the vert: Caymans are a lot more expensive than Boxsters. A similarly equipped Boxster S and Cayman S have a price delta of over $8K.

Delta refers to an incremental or decremental change, not a difference. Just FYI.

LEARN TO DRIVE A PORCHE. You cant shift a Porche below 4k. Idiots thinking they know how to drive a Porche. It's lighter, Sexier, awesome suspension and drivetrain. Give mad props for Porche finally building a car similar to 911 for a price people could afford.

The Cayman's air intake system are very restricted so just taking off the air restrictor on the rear fender scoup willl produce more power enough to feel the difference. My friend drives a Cayman and we ran couple time on a stop. Ofcourse the Cayman would pull from the start but from 3rd gear I was catching up but ran out of road. After couple of runs we decided to switch car. Man I loved it. There are stuff you can do in that car that a G just cant. The steering is very precise and the suspension to die for.

If you go to any Porsche Dealer web site, you'll find that almost all of the Cayman S cars are priced in the high $60s to low $70s. In other words you can almost get two G35s for the price of one CS. So it's good to see that the owners of the Cayman are getting something for their extra $30K.
