R&T '07 Shootout: G35S -vs Acura TL Type-S -VS Lexus IS350

...and the winner is - not the G35S [last place]

I cannot wait to here the response for this; especially those who have stated that [R&T] was the “only valid magazine" in response to MT’s COTY award. Man does this make the wait for my IS350 even tougher.

Lexus IS 350? so much power...but no manual? and the car is very small...I had the S4 that they mention and the S4 is much more a drivers car. If your looking for a soft, luxury car that is overpriced, the IS350 is right for you. Their "sport package" is a joke...

That review was lame. Don't really know what the guys at R&T are smoking these days. The narrator actually said the word "hella" when describing the Lexus. Come on now...are we really supposed to take this seriously?
Maybe this review was geared towards housewives of surburbia and not people who actually enjoy driving.

And it's funny that most other magazines and independent testers have consistently averaged around 5.3 sec for 0-60 for the IS350 with C&D's lowest at 5.1 (C&D seems to always have the lowest times), and R&T was able to get a 4.9...that's quite a discrepancy. R&T's own article from an earlier test showed the 0-60 at 6.0 sec. http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...data_panel.pdf The only difference can be attributed to yaw control not being able to be turned off for this test, but still, a 1.1 second change due to just that? Does not seem realistic.

As for the TL, supposedly it's "touring" dynamics make it better than the new G? Yeah I'm sure the additional HP adds great "touring" torque steer dynamics, which apparently the R&T reviewers love.

They got a 4.9 out of the IS350!!! Daaaaayaaaaaam. Everyone always bad mouthed the IS350 on handling performance. The 07's have a button to turn off the VSC and now offer a factory HKS exhaust to sound like a sports sedan. When they start retesting the car I think the outcome is going to be a lot different.

Interesting. I don't have the article now, but the R&T test of the '06 IS350 showed numbers that made me think twice about buying the car. As I recall, 0-60 in 6 flat - OK. But a long way from 4.9. Skidpad was around .81 or so and slalom at 61+ MPH - very poor handling for this type of car. When I saw the video test of the '07 G35, I was impressed by the poise of the car in the slalom (67 MPH) and under full acceleration and braking. Also, I dislike body roll, and the G35 showed very little of it. It's about personal preference of course, but I will substitute some power for better handling and "poise" - i.e. the car can do difficult things w/o making a big deal out of it. I like the G35 in that regard.

The MT of the G35 seems to have been getting mixed reviews for some time. I've driven the MT ('05). No problems, i.e. no vibes like some have reported, but the clutch engagement position is farther off the floor than I am used to (Supra). I've seen a couple of articles now where the manual tranny has hurt the ratings. There is alot of subjective stuff in these reviews that you and I may or may not agree with - space, comfort, clutch uptake, perceived quality, perceived torque ....

I'm wondering if the Lexus VDIM was off in the test, and what diff that would make (if any).

?

RL, you're confused. This is a G35 site.

Good luck with the Lexus and enjoy their web site.

Cant match the performace aspect of the lexus? Maybe the engine may be a little stronger feeling, but handling? Infiniti is the only car make with comparable handling to bmw. This review sucks

Wow...just...wow. I really can't believe it. None puts more "sport" in "sport sedan" out of those three but the G35.

Not to mention, you're not going to touch an IS350 for less than $40K. The G still rules bang for the buck. And if the G35 MT sucks (it does), just get the auto (it doesn't suck).

Every publication but R&T has preferred the G35's MT over the 335i's.

Wow...that's retarded.
The G35 Sport is far sportier than either of the two cars.
The Lexus is too soft.
The Acura...torque steer.
When you think Sport Sedan...its not Lexus or Acura.
