C&D Comparison Places M5 6MT Last

Anyone catch the C&D comparison between Audi S6, BMW M5 (6MT) and MB E63 AMG?

A manual M5 seemed to fall significantly behind its SMG-equipped counterpart in every performance category. The E63 only marginally bested an S6, while both the E63 and S6 were judged to be quite a bit better than the mighty M5.

Somewhat surprising since all you ever seem to read about is an anticipation around how much better the M5 would be with a manual.

If the S6 actually had a bit more power, it probably would've won walking away. As is, it appears to be a relative bargain at ~$75K, making a pre-owned unit in the next 12 - 18 months actually affordable!

one of the most obvious reasons that 6MT is slower the 7 speed SMG is because its missing one gear. And that one gear helps the car to be on its power band at all times while WOT. I would still take the 6MT over any SMG, auto crap.

motortrend did the same test, but with a smg version of the bmw (the stickshift version was the cause of most of c&d's complaints), and the beemer came out 2nd, right after the audi in 1st and the benz, the blunt tool that it is, came in dead last!
