2004 G35 Coupe vs. 2006 M3 Convertible? What say you?

Ok, I was just pondering this briefly and I have no idea how a race would turn out rolling from 15-mph to say 90 mph between these two cars.

Assuming the G35 is a 6-speed against a driver of same skill in an M3 convertible.

The reason I am curious is because of the power to weight ratios of these two cars:

2004 G35 Coupe---280hp---3416lbs----=12.2hp/lbs

2006 M3 Vert. ----333hp---3781lbs---=11.4hp/lbs

So the G has a better power to weight ratio, right?
What are your thoughts?

it will be a very close race. I ran one on the highway and we were dead even.

M3 all the way. Even though the vert is heavier its still quicker, its not just power to weight ratio.

What is this based on? Any personal experience?

What are the 1/4 mile times of the vert?

What a coincidence, I was waxing my '04 IP coupe and a guy who lives in the same complex came rolling by in a red '06 M3 convert and I had to tell him nice car. I did say I thought his car would beat mine in a race based on the amount of power his had but being a noob, maybe I'm wrong.

The e46 vert runs to 60 in 5.0 and i think it runs the quarter in 13.8.

those HP figures mean nothing.

The M3 looses less power in the drive train, it is a more efficient vehicle. The gearing on the M3 is better also.

The M3 will win.

The 1/4 mile time on the M3 convertible is faster than the G35; therefore, the M3 will win (with equal drivers). People who tell you otherwise just don't understand factual information.

Seems like the jury is still out. I am surprised that some people think the M3 would 'destroy' the G35. That is strong language.

Also, for the person who said the gearing is better in the M3...how so? Our gears are pretty short already. Just looking for answers

Agreed. If I wanted to know about a FI G35 I would make a different thread.

This is not about that.

The only stretch that should be considered would be if the G35 has BASIC bolt-on mods such as an HKS and air filter.

The E46 M3 won't destroy you but it will win. German cars lose less power at the fly. Why? Don't know for sure but German engineering is damn good. Used to have a 95 M3 with 240 hp and it is just a hair slower than my G.

If I knew that I would be designing transmissions. I'm just going by what I have read over the years.
