05 G35 to 335i or TL?

I'm considering either the 335i or TL.

If I can work something out on a 335i or E46 M3 then that's my first choice.

The G35 is a beautiful car but the noises I hear from inside annoy me, and it does feel a bit slow now perhaps because I've grown used to it.

Has anyone gone this route? Opinions?

won't ask you about your preference on the styling of each vehicle..i happen to like the styling of my G coupe way better than 335i and the TL. all three are nice cars, with similar performance.

if i had to choose between the two, i'd go with the TL-S. For 38k (or less), it's the best bang for the buck imo. good looks, awesome interior, moderately fast (even faster with 6-speed?), etc, etc... BMW 3-series has always been the top dog in its class, but then again, you have to pay for it. and i don't think the interior is as good looking as the TL.

conclusion: 335i for the driving pleasure, TL for 10k in your pocket and still have a nice car.

just my 2 cents.

The TL-S 6 Speed w/ High Performance Tires is tempting. MSRP at about $38k isn't too bad either.

Anything I should know about the TL before I start searching the Acura forums? I know it comes with Brembos.. how often are brake pad changes required?

If the G35 feels slow to you the TL isn't going to fix that. If you're concerned with the car feeling fast I suggest the e46 M3. While the 335i is as fast, it is more linear in delivery so doesn't feel as intense. What you need to do is drive the cars and figure out your priorities, because you're dealing with a bunch of very different vehicles. The TL and M3 are two opposite sides of the car buying spectrum.

Sorta hard to compare a 335I and TL when there's probably $10 grand difference for similarly equipped examples.

A performance front wheel drive car, are you serious?

I agree....it's ok in the <30k price range, but 38k is a bit steep for a FWD. A coworker took me to lunch in a loaded awd Passat and it moves. I didn't drive but I bet it drives well too. But it's obvoiusly not comparable to a 3 Series. I love the TL, but I wasn't in the market for a FWD, so I nixxed it. My cousin bought it over a 325, but he admits he would have considered a 328 if it had been out when he got his TL. M3 was mentioned and I think when people are comparing them to 335's and TL's, G35's, they probably haven't gotten around to calculating an operating cost yet. Look at your menu from the BMW service dept. and you'll see the M3 listed above the 7 Series on the pricing. Up through 2k6 it requires valve adjustment. It gets 23 mpg on the highway. It's loud. It rides harshly. It performs. It costs a good 10k more than a 335 and it's a generation older.

My advice is to drive all the cars on this list, despite them having different characteristics. Then see what you think and narrow it down. It's like going to the high school guidance counselor and asking what college you should go to--a lot will have to do with your transcript, SAT's, activities, alumni contributions. Only then can you say Hudson Valley Community, SUNY, or Columbia.....my .02.

Thanks.. this is what I needed. I am aware of the costs of having an M3 but with the new gen M3 coming out I thought the price would drop a bit.

A lot of people have been telling me to stay away from the TL because it's FWD, but it seems to be the best car for the money. Granted I've never driven a FWD. I'll have to test drive them all before I make a decision for sure.

Does anyone know how the 328 compares to the G35, and is it meant to replace the 330?

It's hard to compare the 328/new TL/335i to the last gen G. Compared to the *new* G the 328 only really competes in terms of ride feel/steering, which is important of course but in terms of everything else the G is a much better buy (imo). The G makes the 328 seem anemic (it's not but the G is a quick car), has way more tech, more std features, and a much nicer interior. Compared to the OLD G it's really hard to make an accurate comparison since ones a new model and one is a ~4.5 year old model.

Weird.

nah..
the 335i is a great choice.. if you can find the price you're looking for.
it would be my top choice also.
but i would take an 07 TL (TL-S preferably) over the m3.

I'd go w/ 335i coupe if you want the speed..
but for styling and eye candy.. hands down G35c..

oh by the way have you thought of saving some
money and buying a TT?

Everyone seems to love the 335, as do I.

My last 2 choices are the 335i and TL-S.. right now, the only reason I'm still not sure about the TL-S is because it's FWD.

I can get a fully loaded TL-S, or a base 335i. I'll decide after I test drive both cars. I'd like to stay around $40k, and that means near impossible with a 335i even if it's bone stock.

Thanks for all the comments, guys.

The only way I'd stay with the G is if I traded in my 05 and went for an 08. I told myself I'll never buy another Infiniti or keep this one for too long.

Only time will tell..

A TT would be nice but I just don't have the time that it takes. Also, I'm looking for a car that transfers less road noise into the cabin.
