IS350 vs G35 vs 335i vs GT Spec B

found this off clublexus
might be new to some, old to others..well new to me
nice to see the skyline come out on top

Quote:
Best Motoring has an awesome vid in their March 2007 edtion, has anyone seen it? It's extremely thorough and they have a five lap race between the four cars. They start from a roll and the IS350 seems to rocket out of the gate compared to the other 3 cars. In the end, the 335i and G35 clearly outhandled the IS and Spec.B. The results were:

G35 (tie for 1st)
335i (tie for 1st)
IS350 3rd
Spec.B 4th

Like I mentioned, they started out from a roll in a hp/weight order....so the IS350 was first, the G35 second, the 335i third, and the Spec.B last. Not surpisingly, the 335i had the best laptime. The 335i tied with the G, but also started out in third place.

The only caveat is that it is in Japanese, so I can't understand a thing what they are saying. Fortunately, you can read all the numbers posted though.

I understand 70% of what they're talking about lol it was funny though.

They absolutely hated the seatbelt of the IS350. Surprisingly 4was did very well in the slalom tests and track... logged times faster than without 4was.

it's a fantastic video, wish there was a English translation because the bulk of the video talks about driver impressions and comparisons. none the less the G35 came out smelling like a rose... I was frankly a little disappointed in the 335i. looking at the lap portion of the video, it surprisingly only had a 3km/hr top speed over the G35, and had a second better for it's best lap time, which is good, however through laps 3, 4, and 5 it could never take the G35. even when he got daring and entered the turn with more speed and tried to pass on the outside a few times, it seems at what ever speed they were at, the 335i was short on power and couldn't pass, and actually fell back behind the G35 coming out of the turn every time, and they showed both had the gas floored.

as for the is350, you could definitely see the sloppiness of the handling coming through in the video. but you could also see that the engine was very good, I was impressed by it's power and acceleration out of a turn, but the reason it fell behind the G35 and 335i was strictly due to poor handling, it couldn't hold the turn and you could see it getting some body roll and loosing traction while the other cars didn't. in the last lap, the Subaru was even breathing heavy down the IS's neck and could have passed on a few turns, but just didn't have the power to keep it's position once the turn straitened out.

As an owner of 4WAS, I can definitely feel that there is something amazing going on in the steering, and it's nice to see this video, and from what I can tell about their impressions it seems they liked the 4was system, especially during slalom and winding roads.

Excellent find on this video... this is clearly the best performance review/comparison yet.

edit: spelling Whish vs wish lol!

And yet I still fail to understand what the hype about the bimmer is all about. Great car, but not for THAT much extra $$.

I'll keep my order, thanks.

The 335i seems to loose to the G35 at the braking and out of the corner. But on the straight, you could see the 335i started to catch up to the G35 again but then loose a bit of grip when braking for the corner.

A TT sharing a win with a non-turbo G35.
This will no doubt upset the BMW cult members. LOL.
PASS THE KOOL-AID!!!!

I'd be interested to hear their impressions of the 4WAS system... especially since you can't really compare the benefits back-to-back with a non-4WAS system... since the suspensions are different as well.

Agreed - it's much more dramatic. The Nissan logo is a bit busy.

I'm doing this comparison now to decide what to buy. For me, it comes down to the 335 v G35, which basically means a TT w/ tons of potential v a capable car that costs 10k less and is immediately available. Thus, I'll probably be a G owner.

The Bimmer is a nice car - own a BMW now and I love it, but damn, I can do a lot w/ the 10k I'll save.

the g + $10k = MUCH better car than the 335. plus ive heard numerous complaints about the 335 engine. bottom line, bmw is clueless on turbo's engines. where as nissan, toyota, audi, mazda, subaru, mistu and others have much more experience in it.
