GTR Blew Up, Repost?

I saw this yesterday... Haven't seen it in here yet, as I'm assuming this would be the forum it'd be in...

Expect the GTR to be pushed back a few months, lol. Maybe it won't be an 08 model afterall?

"I got a call from my local Nissan dealership Friday afternoon. One of the salesman [a close friend] said that a car broke down near here and it was brought in on a closed trailer. he didn't say what it was but told me I needed to hurry down.

Apparently I missed it by about 10 minutes because the trailer was pulling out as I pulled in but my friend managed to get one picture while it was there.

He said that none of the employees were allowed to look at it and when they opened the hood, no one was allowed in the area but the Nissan engineers. It was right hand drive and they heard that it was a V8. Apparently at some point the car suffered some kind of valve train damaged and after two hours of working on it they(the Nissan Engineers) decided it wasn't repairable in the facility and pushed it back onto the trailer and left."

ALRIGHT! So here is the newest conspiracies [the 350Z guys are smarter then they appear...]

The GTR has been spotted in Cali and New Mexico on the street and tracks, some shots have been taken of the engine open from distances and turbo piping as well as the VQHR style placement of the dispstick oil is visible- this implies the V6 TT engine many have been looking at.

There is now believed to be another model. A V8 setup that has been spotted in Michigan and now Iowa.

So, the last rumor running around if that the US may or may not get the V6 TT but a V8 alone. Still waiting to get more info from the guys at which ever Nissan Dealer this GTR pulled up at and who [if anyone] can possitively say it was V8.

There are definately more then one GTR running around in the US because both have been spotted within days of each other, and thats alot of ground to cover between Cali and Michigan.

Look at the rims in the above pic,
Now look at the rims in the New Mexico pic...

Its gettin' good!

It definitely won't disappoint. I too heard about the rumor of a V8 only model in the U.S.

Nissan would be just plain stoopid if they don't have a turbo version in the US.

Are they really trying to make the car a flop here?

The only way I would consider it with a V8, is if it had 2 turbos attached to it. A 4 liter V8 with turbos wouldn't be a bad thing... but it makes no sense. They have no existing platform to develop off of... unlike the VQ. So if it was a V8... then it was probably N/A. Maybe a mule for the upcoming Z replacement? That's the only thing that makes sense.

Surely they wouldn't bother with 2 versions, one with VQTT and one with V8? Makes no sense, either.

I can't believe it would be offered here as a V8, but then again, I can't believe they are badging it as a Nissan.

if you read any of the articles that posted pics of the GTR in teh US you would have realized that they changed tires/rims MANY MANY times, I doubt there is more than one GTR in the US (other than the one/two) they had in LA for testing.

Back on topic...

I think Nissan would be wise to V8 the GT-R to appeal to a wider American market.

If they really want to go up against the *shudder* 'Vette they need to go V8+FI. The 911 only pulls off the V6+FI setup because they've proven themselves for decades with their unique engineering. Nissan has an on-paper uphill battle with this model if they keep the V6.

the american market has been shying away from anything larger than a V8...look at SUV sales the past year or two. ever since gas prices hit all time highs this past summer, SUV sales have plummeted. Ford and Chevy are both in trouble...

I highly doubt the GTR will have a V8

3.6L flat six. . .slightly different than a V. But your point is made. . .Porsche has indeed been the turbo six gurus for years.

Flat 6 totally different animal than the V6.

That said, don't worry my R33 GTR kept blowing up on cali 91 octane also - the Japanese tuners are always surprised (and pissed) about how crappy 91 octane is. If it's detuned for 91, that'll mean it'll make a whole lot more on good gas.

Cheers,

Gary
