Infiniti Up, Lexus Down

Take this for what it's worth, but according to Consumer Reports Infiniti made HUGE strides in predicted reliability ratings. Infiniti went from #28 in 2006 to #8 for 2007.

Audi was another big mover in a positive direction, while Lexus dropped from #1 to #5.

Here's the article.

Also, here is the 2007 rankings.

But if you look at the rankings it shows Infiniti behind Hyundai. WTF! MB in last and BMW is 21st?! Double WTF! Oh well better luck next year right?

Hyundai's reliability has been moving up for the last few years pretty steadily. I was surprised to see where they sit in this list, which seems to be the most comprehensive long term reliability study.

Yeah, Hyundai has been making some HUGE strides the last 3-5 years. I definitely like what they are doing lately. I wouldn't hesitate checking them out at all if I was was buying a vehicle in a segment in which they serve.

Hyundai is a well built car that has come a long way from 25 years ago. Their CEO is a fanatic about quality and its starting to really show in the ratings and consumer purchases.

i really HATE consumer reports and they way they test/come up with their #'s. I wouldn't look to them for advise on ice cream scoops let alone cars. still love my Lexus and being a division of Toyota I'm not upset with 5th at all.

Same here. I detailed a Sonata this summer and the quality was excellent compared to the Toyota/Honda/Nissan equivalents.

I took a drive in a new Tuscon a couple of months ago and I was very impressed. I personally would have no problem owning one.

On a side note, I wonder how bad the QX is dragging down Infiniti's predicted realiability ratings with CR?

No I'm comparing MB with BMW. BMW reliability is marginal at best compared to MB. BMW tends to use to many computers on their cars making it an electronic nightmare on wheels. The average BMW let's say the 3 series has about 42 computers in it from something as small as a matchbox to as big as cablebox. I use to work with a guy that came from BMW parts dept. I was just simply amaze at some of the stories he was telling me. Just an example, a brand spanking new off the truck 7 series didn't pass PDI with 12 miles on it, because the engine had a bad vibration. They ended up sending the engine back to Germany for further analysis. Another 7 series push button start went up in smoke while delivering to the new buyer at the dealers lot. He ended up cancelling the purchase and walked away. I could go on forever with some of the stories that I heard from him. I'm not saying MB's record is perfect but damn how can these cars past quality control at the factory and end up failing PDI at the dealer? It must have been Miller time at the factory when they finish the car.

Hyundai? Well I don't care what anyone says about the quality of this thing. I will never buy another Hyundai car in my life. Sadly I owned one let's just say lesson learned never again!
