The G37 has me delaying a decision

I was negotiating to buy a Cayman S but the G37 sounds so promising that I'll postpone the Cayman decision until I get more information about the G37. If the G37 has performance that's comparable to the 335, than I'll buy it and not the Cayman. My only concern is that it may be months before we know how the G37 will perform. Although if the G37 engine puts out around 320 HP, I 'd expect a 1/4 time in the low to mid 13s. That's not spectacular but good enough as far as I'm concerned, especially for the money.

Where have you seen the sedan as a mid-13's car? Every test I have seen has been 13.9 and one or 2 higher than that (14.0-14.1). 15-20 more hp will not make much difference in that time. With the sedan doing 13.9s, and the coupe getting 15 more hp, I expect 1/4 mile times to barely go down to 13.8 or maybe 13.7.

How do you figure low 13s?

By the way, I hope you are right but I can't see that being the case with just 15 hp, unless the coupe goes on a diet.

I didnt say the new sadan was a mid 13 second car, i said it was a 13 second car. With that in mind and the coupe having a 3.7L i said that the new G COUPE will be a mid to low 13 second car.

Sean,

I mis-read your post. You never said the sedan was mid-13's. I believe everything else still holds true - 15 hp does not equal .5-.6 seconds in the 1/4 mile. I really wish infiniti would shock bmw and come out with a 3300-3400 lb version of this car. Shedding a couple of hundred pounds would make a big difference performance wise. Not just accelerlation, but handling.

Thats what i was hopeing for thats why i said such low times. I think the new coupe will run anywhere from 13.4 - 13.7, but i think the car will be alot lighter than the older G since they have a new motor being put in. I guess we will see though!

EDIT: i think that if bmw can put out 340HP in the competition M3 that infiniti can get atleast 330...

BMW = 3400 pounds 13.2 1/4 mile
Infiniti = 3450 pounds i think it should run atleast 13.4 1/4 with 330HP

Not to go too far off topic, but C&D got 13.7 out of the new Sedan.

Thats what i thought, but i couldnt find it. Thanks for posting that, thats why i thought the 08 coupe would get such low numbers.

Even if they add 30hp it'll be tough to get more than say, 4/10ths without different gearing and a different power band. Since they've added more displacement they might get a different power band. It'll be interesting to see if they can shed some weight; no one else in this segment seems to do that so I hope Infiniti can - that'd be a huge advantage. My guess is we'll see mag times of ~13.4ish @ 104-105mph. The LSD will definitely help it launch.

If the G37 can run 0/60 in 4.9 and the 1/4 in 13.4, I'd be more than happy. The 07 G coupe puts out 293 HP with the 6 speed, so I'm thinking that the G37 will have to put out around 330 HP to run the times that I listed.

G37 v Cayman = completely different cars in my book. The G will be much heavier and more "luxurious". The Porsche will be a much better corner carver.

You are right in waiting though, as I would drive both of them first if you are on the fence.

I don't think you see his point.

Ofcourse the G35/G37 doesnt compete with a Cayman S, but if he can get similar performance with looks, in other words, best bang for your buck, then he would rather get the G for the price.

My though as well.
They're two completely different types of cars.

I was originally waiting for the new coupe in comparison to the E92 335i.
I didn't have time to wait for the G .... & when I couldn't pull the trigger on the 335....
I eventually realised it was a different *type* of car that suited my current situation. (no kids)

Then.... both the new G coupe & E92 were out of the picture.

I started looking at *sports* cars (didn't matter steel roof or rag top)
I took a quick look at the Cayman, but 5 seconds into a test drive of the Z4M.... game over, I was sold!
