A 2002 530i BMW isnt bad.is it?

Thinking of just getting a 2002 530i for now and wait for 2yrs when all the cool cars come out. Not bad of a car is it? Never had a BMW before so asking to see what you guys think?

Just make sure it's under warranty, repairs can be expensive. If properly maintained BMW engines can be bulletproof. The E39 bodystyle is classic as well, IMO.

I have been thinking about the e39 5 serice for a while. I love the 03 540i sports. Switching to a 530 will probably take a second or more off you 0-60 time, if you care. Inspection II for BMWs will be around $3,000.

Actually inspection II for an M series is only $1200, so I would expect the 5er to be a bit less.

e39s are great cars ... yea i dont think a Inspection 2 is 3k .. warranty is KEY for BMWs

hmm.. cause the guy wants to sell for 11,000.00 with 50k miles.....hes desperate...hes loss is my gain if you think about it..

brakes all the way around ? belts is a 1.5 hour job .. and what do you mean by a tune up ?

insepction 2 includes diff change (if recomended in the checklist) .. fuel filter (if recomended in the checklist) .. air filter ... LOF ... top off PS fluid if needed .. windshield washer fluid and spark plugs .. i dont think im missing anything

I think with everything included it would run maybe $1750? Not to sure about non M maintenance. I am pretty sure that belts don't need to be changed every 40k, or even the brakes but I could be wrong.

M inspec 2 cost a lil more .. the S54 motor requires a valve cover gasket replacement and valve adjustment (if necessary) .. so add a few more hours to a M inspec 2

I dont believe the S62 motor requires a valve cover gasket replacement ... havent done one yet.

Dont know on the S85 motor either cause no one has yet to reach a inspec 2... atleast i hope they havent

hopefully the belts have been changed .. if not they are def due at 40k

DaVeed, you know more than I do about this.

All I remember was a bill slightly under 3k for my Z4 at inspection II which included brakes. The brakes were 1k. The car had 60k at the time.

Sounds like a great deal....

If you're buying private,
be sure to make a conditional offer based on your mechanics inspection/approval.

DO NOT lay down your cash w/o a good mechanics (BMW tech) inspection.

You can save a ton of money if you have a good independant BMW tech do most of the inspection.
There's only a couple of items that have to be done at the dealer.

I know guys that have had their InspII dealer stamped for < $500.
