Pontiac G?

There are 26 letters in the alphabet. Why did Pontiac select the letter G to name their new rental princess the "G6" ? Who do they think they are kidding? What's next, the Aztek QX56?

Re: Pontiac G?

I'm not familiar with the G6, but I doubt that Pontiac is trying to take advantage of G35 brand name recognition. Remember, they're coming back with the GTO this year, a name they used 30 years ago. I've got to think that they're trying to take advantage of that reference.

Re: Pontiac G?

Good thought. The G6 was introduced yesterday at the North Amer. Auto show. Actually not bad looking for a GM, just that G thing gets me!

Re: Pontiac G?

You've forgotten how Nissan's Z car popularized the last letter in the alphabet. First was the Chevy Z28 Contraro, then the Z24 Bordello, and finally the Z06 Effette, followed most recently by none other than BMW and their Z4 Bangladesh designer edition. Next up: Cadillac Q33r edition.

Re: Pontiac G?

Damn near all of Pontiac's cars' names start with the letter G. Grand Am, Grand Prix, GTP, GTO, and now G6. They all look alike too. I really hate that. It's not as bad as when everyone's cars looked like everyone else's cars, but why have so many companies moved to a one-look-suits-all image style? I would never have become an Infiniti driver if the G had the same front grill as the current M45 or I35 or QX4. It's one of the reasons that I wouldn't buy a M3 or S55 AMG even if I could afford one. Subaru is apparently planning a uniform look based on this thing, which, while interesting looking, is definitely going to turn off some people who might otherwise have bought a car. I thought the new Legacies due to be released soon looked great, if conservative. The things car companies do just don't make sense to me.
