car companies should RETRO models!

i wonder why car companies do not retro successful cars. i don't mean just ANY car. i mean the cars that have proven to be "classics and dream cars." Two cars that pop in my mind are the Toyota Supra and the Chevrolet Impala SS (1996). I'm sure if they brought back the same exact car (no changes whatsoever), they would make a killing. They wouldn't even have to spend the big bucks on R&D because they already have the right formula. "Retro-looking" cars like the mustang and Camaro don't really count.

I use to be a big shoe freak, and Nike has got into the habit of retro-ing many of their models (including Jordan's), which have sold very successfully.

So why not with cars??? Which cars would you like to see brought back to life in original form?? Your thoughts please...

shoes are a few hundred and its much easier to afford more shoes... i dont know how you would compare the 2. Didnt toyota stopp selling the supra cuz they were losing money producing the cars

they are doing that, watch all the new american muscles comin out they are re-makes of the oldies but new technology... i think if people wanted the old dated look they would buy used if car companies went back to re-makes their older models, i dont think there would be any progression in the automotive industry. ie. new GT mustang Boss, challenger...etc..

yea, obviously cars are more expensive than shoes (i'm not saying people should buy multiple cars). how can i compare the two?? easy. i lot of people that weren't old enough (or didnt have the funds/knowledge) to buy a car back then would love to buy it this time around. kinda like a second chance.

like i said in my original post, retro-like-look doesnt count. i want the car in it's original OEM from when it was originally released.

who wouldnt want to spend ~$40,000 on a Supra today (or any other car from the past) knowing what it is capable of doing?? i think you guys missed the point altogether.

nobody wants old technology. theyre not guna make any money selling to only enthusiasts. the real money is in selling to the common consumer. also emission and safety standards have changed.

That would de-value the old ones.

Because car is way more complicated than shoes.......
with shoes, you just wear it, you dont compare 2007 Nike vs 1970 Nike in term of the engineering......
with car, you dont just sit in it, you compare it with its competitions in term of performance, modying ability, etc.
Buying new car with old technology is like buying Atari where there are ps3 and xbox 360 ..... there is a market for this kind of stuffs (eg people like you) but the market is simply not big enough....

One example why it won't work: Supra TT back then was going for around 50k-ish for 320HP. For 56k now, you can get the future GT-R w/ 450+HP, or the C6 LS3 Corvette with 400+HP, even Cayman S is around 50-60k. Technologies evolved and what was great 10 years ago is average in today's standard. Don't forget, 50k 10 years ago, with 3% inflation = $67k today. Can you Imagine paying $67k for a 1996 Supra? Ain't gonna happen.

b/c there is no money in creating an assembly plant with all the staffing, machinery, robotic welding arms, suppliers cost, electricity, shipping, dealerships to sell inventory, advertising........all to make yesterday's product. Nope. You can't disrupt the assembly lines for current models either...that would cascade into loss of current model production and major revenue toileting.

Along with current safety standards not being met, dealer servicing issues/costs...including trainging techs on the old car diagnostics/service bulletins, cost of providing warranty on the old-new car, ruining image b/c the company is unable to produce new innovative products...so they revert to old crap.......so on and so forth
