Thinking about getting a Honda Civic Si
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mugen version coming in 2008 I am thinking about getting a Honda Civic Si sedan. I had been planning to get the new G37 Coupe, but with gas prices being what they are, I am a little nervous at the moment. I don't see gas prices going down much in the next few years. If anything, prices may stabilize at what they are now and then gradually go up. My color preference is Fiji Blue Pearl. In any event, I test drove an Si sedan. It was fairly quick, has an 8,000 rpm redline, and handled and braked really well. I think it is stylish and the fuel economy is 23/32. On a Honda forum that I joined, many guys say they get close to 35 mpg on the highway and the mid 20's in town. I am going to keep my heavily modded 03.5 G35 Sedan. That is my toy. It has seen rain only once in almost 5 years and never is taken out in inclement weather. It has only 22,000 miles. I plan on keeping it for a long time. My wife has made it clear that she does not want another "toy" sitting in the garage. She wants me to get another new car, but wants me to drive it every day. Since I live in Minnesota and the weather can be so atrocious here, I just can't stomach the thought of driving a new G37 Coupe in the winter here. Summer maybe, but not the winter. Thus, I have given serious consideration to getting a Civic Si. Any thoughts?

Have you price one of those SI fully loaded. The price is obscene. In the end it is still a "CIVIC". A saving of 20 or 30% in gas is no big deal in the scheme of things. Think of it as luxury cost.
Maybe sell your old G and get a 07 G35X as a toy and daily driver. The 07 also has better gas mileage.

Why not get the G37 as the Toy and drive your 03.5G as the daily?

Why does every one bash the Civic?

What mods have you done on the G so far?
If you are getting the civic for mpg and some kicks, I don't see why you go brand new. It's just a commuter right?

What's more important to you, saving gas or overall car? If you already have a heavily modded G sedan that's already fast, why would you need to pick up the 4 door Si? Couldn't you settle for just the EX sedan/coupe and save even more on gas? Factoring in winter driving and have a gas conscious mind, I'd pick an IS250 AWD or Camry SE V6. These won't save you more on gas compared to the Civic but they're good overall cars that can be made sporty.

The thing is you want to spend $21k to save on gas costs? That's ALOT of gas! Would take forever to recoupe that. IMHO only. If you could find an Acura GSR 2 or 4 door that has low miles and is relatively unmolested, that could be a nice option

As a car enthusiast, it is hard for me to think of my baby having bird poop, door dings, salt, sand, and the weather abusing it. I can live with a Civic having those things far more than a G. My wife absolutely will not allow me to have two G's sitting in the garage to be driven on only nice days. I know her threshold of tolerance and it is at the limit right now. If Mama ain't happy, then the entire house ain't happy. My wife is not a car enthusiast and sees cars as appliances, not objects of lust. Thanks for your good input. I do appreciate it and it is giving me some food for thought.

IMHO again, why let a brand new car get abused like that? At the very least, buy a car that's a few years old and let the other guy take the 1st 2-3 depreciation hit.
