Qx4 - Cracked Rims - No Warranty?

This happened to my friend today. He has a 2002 QX4 and it’s under full warranty. Three of his chrome rims cracked all the way through. He discovered this when he was having a flat repaired by AAA and was told not to drive the car because the cracks went all the way through the rims. He immediately took the car into Infiniti of Thousand Oaks (CA) and spoke to the service manager. She gave him a very hard time and told him there was nothing they could do because when the rims are chromed you loose the warranty on them. She understood that the car was purchased new from them equipped with the chrome wheels. After three hours at the dealership, refusing to leave until they did something, she sent him away in a rental car which he had to pay for while they thought about it. He was livid and I don’t blame him. At 5:00 p.m. they finally called him to say they could replace the rims with some used ones just like those that were on the car, which they found at a tire store. At this point he’s happy to have any rims and will accept them just to get back on the road. But shouldn’t they really be providing new rims? Will the used rims be warranted? Is there any truth to the chromes wheels not having any warranty? Does Anyone know if there are any TSBs for this problem? If you ask me, this is disgraceful and Infiniti of Thousand Oaks should be ashamed. Hopefully, he’ll track down the owner tomorrow and lodge a complaint. This really upset me too because, being a previous Q45, and now G35 owner, I’m an Infiniti fan but this is disgusting. I hope it’s not a sign that Infiniti service is being lowered to the lowest common denominator of automobile manufacturers’ service. Maybe Thousand Oaks Infiniti just has a bad egg in their service management team, but that’s how it all begins…

dealers suck, they are there to make and save money. i would have him call infiniti consumer affairs and explain everything to them. they are very helpful. they should of given him 4 new wheels especially if the dealer had the wheels chromed. damn i hate dealers!

Yeah, most likely the dealer had the wheels chromed through someone local to them. Most every dealership does it and I've heard about QX4 wheels cracking before once chromed, but it's not common. I'm guessing it's just those wheels, but I'm honestly not sure. That really sucks the dealer wasn't willing to do anything at all, since they were the ones to have them sent to get chromed in the first place.
Also, doesn't that dealer have loaner cars through the service department?
And yes dealers can suck, but some dealers are definitely much worse than others.

Dealers are crooks all of them.....I don't care what people say. If the opportunity is there they will take every penny from you I don't care what dealer it is.

But what about chrome plating would cause the wheels to crack? I haven't heard of any wheels cracking under normal use since the 70's, and that was usually due to poor tire mounting practices!
