335I true weight. BMW potentially overstated by 200+

Since weights been a constant discussion in G37 vs 335I comparisons, I posted here but please move to other cars if its more appropriate over there.

E92 forum post where driver just weight his 335I at 3360, BMW lists 335I at 3582. Car and driver weighed 335I at 3366.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ght=weight+e92
Lots of discussion going on that BMW inlcudes driver weight, which makes them over rate there car by 200 lbs!

Imagine the 135I weight! 3,000??

This post should be in the "Other Cars" section since the G37 has nothing to do with BMW driver's car weight. You know you're able to delete a thread, right? You can delete and just create this thread there.

There are rumours that all BMWs official weight include an average driver's weight.... so I won't be surprised to find out that...

depends on certain factors such as elevation above sea level, whether the driver took a #2 or not, whether they removed the dead bambi they killed while test driving the night before... etc.

BMW needs to stop underestimating and overstating such stats; I just don't see how its benefical to their own success & against their competitors.

Its already a known fact that "300HP & 300TQ" was under estimated by BMW, just as they under esimate all of their HP/TQ Figures.... and now weight?

Elevation affects weight?

I always thought elevation only affected the engine's performance from less oxygen.

That's a clever trick~

I don't much care for the front end of the new 335i, but the performance is definitely on a whole other level. Too bad BMW insists on charging $5000 for the propeller badge....

Gerhard Richter from BMW said "For 20 years, people have learned to pay for more power, not less weight. But that must change." I am definitely with that. I am hoping the new 370Z will be at least 150lbs lighter than the out going model. (though I don't see how that can possible happen overnight, unless the new Z has tons of carbon fiber parts)

Read it, i think its ridiculous. Everyone can just as easily pullout their registration and read the "curb weight" of the car right on there. Dont know why he had to get it weighed again? Even one of the bimmer guys was calling him "OCD"

Lets say it is true? Therefore the weight difference in the car is > than initially thought, yet the performance is still very close, with the bmw pulling on the launch and the g37 reeling it back in? BMW has more tq, initially underated HP and TQ numbers, is evidentally less heavy, significantly less heavy, even lighter than the e36 m3, yet it still cant out handle that m3 nor does it run away from the porky g37, even losing in the slalom? Lol kinda funny though, the heavier car w/ significantly less torque kinda holds it own huh?

With a 300-400 pound lighter car, that cant all be BMW savings on the engine weight. They have to be short changing somewhere; weaker doors for a poorer crash test rating? Relatively speaking compared to the G? Poor sound system? Not as strong chasis? Missing Dipsticks?

In the end what does this prove? Who really cares? In the end is it going to stop someone from test driving both cars and buying which ever they like better?

Why dont they get a horse jockey and make him drive the car, he weighs less than the "average guy". And I will goto Tihuana? and get me a midget to drive the g37....We can call it "Battle of the Petities"

I've never weighed any of my cars, so I don't know how car companies list their official weights, but I would guess that they all do it the same. I'd be surprised if the 335 weighed 200 lbs less than initially stated by BMW. Regardless, like someone else mentioned, the performance is the performance. It's not like the car just got faster because the actual weight is known.
