FX35 Info

New member here. After reading several posts it appears several G owners also own an FX. Can someone give me pros/cons of the FX? Considering FX for combined sport/'some' utility. Will come down to leasing either a G sedan or FX35.

Re: FX35 Info

I was in the same predicament as you, until I resolved it by getting the coupe. Between an FX and a G sedan, I favored the FX for the following reasons:

More utility
Better interior materials (I'm sure G sedan owners will differ with me on this)
Better view over traffic
Unique, aggressive design (more WOW factor)
Greater exclusivity (many more G sedans on the road)

The only downside to the FX was the lack of an manual tranny.

"Greater exclusivity (many more G sedans on the road) " this is definatelly not the case in NY/NJ. I see tons of FX's it seems like every other soccer mom is driving one now.

Re: FX35 Info

Both are great cars. I have an FX and G sedan in my garage. The Sedan's a much more fun drive, but the FX is definitely a pile of fun. The interior materials are pretty much the same, IMO, except that the seats are much tighter in the FX, and you really can't get comfy in them for a long trip (try reclining the passanger seat-- the side bolsters sort of get you in the shoulders). The FX isn't as quick, but it's definitely not slow at all. Not quite sure how to compare/contrast them... if I were to get just one, it would depend on whether I needed and SUV or a sedan... I'd probably choose the FX, for its utility, but I'd miss my sedan a lot.

Re: FX35 Info

Geo - obviously the sedan is probably a more exciting drive, but to what extent? I have driven a sedan a couple of times. The only time I drove an FX was a cold, rainy day so no letting loose on the throttle.

I live in TN so AWD is not a necessity though if I decide on the FX I will get AWD. I do prefer the FX for the 'exclusivity' factor - many more G's in the area although seeing more FX's weekly.

Re: FX35 Info

The ride in the FX is plenty of fun. I turned mine over to a friend (professional racecar driver), and he LOVED it. Wonderful power, great handling. Only downside is that the ride can be a little rough for an SUV, but with huge wheels and a sports suspension, what do you expect? I like it.

Go take a drive in the FX again on a nice day. Let it warm up a bit, then take it to a parking lot and just try to roll it

If I had it to do over, I'd get the sedan because it's just right for me, but I'd have a TOUGH time turning down the FX. If you want the exclusivity, you can't beat it!

Re: FX35 Info

I have a G35 and have seen the FX35 and heard it. Aside from the comfort issue (fixed in 2k4 models), if I had to do it all over again, FX all the way. FX45 if I could afford it.

Re: FX35 Info

I like the looks of the FX but the Murano has more room and the CVT is sweet.

Re: FX35 Info

noel48 - I'd love to have your inventory of autos to choose from. BUT, I am only in the market for one right now. Did you test drive an FX before buying the Murano? I've driven an FX and only looked at the Murano. The M is bigger and I like the rear end fine, just cannot talk myself into liking the front end for some reason. I also like the appearance of the FX interior much better - not necessarily the quality of parts, just the design seems to flow without the gauges or center radio stack "protruding" off the dash.

Again, I am being picky trying to justify the extra $$ for the FX. My wife is a Nissan employee so our lease deal is excellent on both! Decisions, decisions...

Re: FX35 Info

One more thing for Murano drivers - how do you like the CVT? I haven't driven one yet. Does it take time to get used to it? Also, on the '04 SE model there is a manumatic mode. How does that work when a CVT doesn't 'shift' like a normal automatic?

Re: FX35 Info

We test drove the Murano quite a bit, and I really didn't enjoy the CVT too much-- the vehicle was one for Nissan to display its CVT to America, basically. Take a Murano to the Infiniti dealership, and park the two side-by-side. Go over the two of em, and drive them back-to-back. That'll end the decision for you. The Murano's much more practical if you have a bigger fam, but it can't even touch the FX in the performance spectrum. The CVT doesn't give that punch when you want to switch lanes, if you floor it from a stop, it's just not there for you as much as the FX is. Of course there's a 10k price difference, but there's a reason for it. Apples to oranges, really... If you want practical family, go Murano. If you have two kids and run a lot of errands (the FX still holds a ton of crap, esp. when you fold down the rear seat too), but still want a fun drive, go FX. Just so you know, I drove the FX, RX330, Murano, Pacifica, MB, and Cayenne when choosing, and took the FX. My mom drove it and fell in love, whereas her feelings towards the Murano were somewhat ambivalent as well.

Re: FX35 Info

The FX is quicker than the Murano but the nice thing about the CVT is the absence of the feel of gear changes.Unless you look at the tach you don't know when the gears upshift or downshift.

Re: FX35 Info

The CVT is a technically superior tranny concept than a standard auto, but current CVT designs can't handle as much power. If a CVT could handle the power of, say, an FX45's engine, the CVT tranny would be the performance winner.
