M5?

A business associate of mine is going through a messy divorce. They asked me if i would be insterested in their 06 bmw m5, 20k Miles, fully loaded. Asking 65k for it. They owe around 80k.
What are peoples opinions about the price & car?
I see on ebay there are some from 65k-70k comparatively so it hasnt struck me as a great deal.

Tell me your thoughts
thanks

P.s... i know the car is sick and sought after by many but thats all i know about this car.

The M5 is one of the most amazing cars you can buy. Having driven one, in M mode, that thing is amazingly fast and handles like it's on rails. You should check out the Top Gear episode were they tested the M5. Get the M5, you will not be disappointed in any way.

IMO the car was slapped with the ugly stick only a few times less than the pug fugly E63 M6. Not a fan at all of this thing's design. I'm also not a fan of BMWs SMG gearbox. I know the car can now be had with a 6M/T and as of the '08 model year, supposedly you can fully disable traction and stability control this time around unlike last years model, however seeing as the car in question is an '06, it'll come with an SMG box. IMO drive it first and then see if the car is for you. Regardless of my thoughts the car still hauls ***. 65k or not, take it for a spin and see if it fits your needs. Don't let our opinions alone dictate what you end up putting in your garage.

+1. 65k for this car is a ridiculously low price. If I had the option to pick one up for that price I would jump on it.

65k is a low price for a 2k6, the wholesale is on avg. around 67, with the avg. private party at 72k.

If you were looking for a M5, it's worth considering. If this is an impulse buy based on low price, I'd steer clear. The latter is the penny-wise pound-foolish scenario--you save 7k over retail but in turn are out 65k and end up with a car you weren't planning on purchasing. 7k is not a compelling argument to buy it just because imho. If I had 65k to spend, I'd be saving up for a Cayman S.

Good points.

What the owe on it is irrelevant. What is relevant is the selling price vs. the market price.

$65K is a good deal if it's the car you really want. It sounds like you don't know much about the car, and haven't spent any time researching or driving it, so I'd suggest figuring out if that specific M5 is worth your $65K.

That said, they are great cars. A friend of mine in the UK just got one, and he raves about it (and his last car was a 911C4 Cabrio, to give you an idea of what he compares it to).

I appreciate the opinions. You all are pretty insightful; I am not planning on buying it and only would if the price was a steal. But it doesnt seem that cheap to me to go for it. I would finance it and it would be approx 1200 month for 60 months. Thats a lot of $; I'd rather save it.

The cayman S is really nice and aggressive looking. Definitely a head turner.
The m5 doesnt really do it for me styling wise. I have not sat in one or drove but i have seen it in person and seen various pictures.

I'm not in the market for a new car but always explore my options.
Thanks

Do it, Do it, Do it.....You can do it... If you don't take it tell the guy I will gladly accept. 65k is a steal for that car!

Might want to reconsider about that price being "good"... Of course I am not sure how reliable this seller or price is...

That price on Craigslist is unbelievable. This is most definitely an exceptional price. I would be very weary of anyone letting go of an immaculate 07 M3 with only 8k miles for 51k. Just my 2 cents.
