I thought it would be an easy choice based on your priorities

M3: Performance with Class
GT-R: Performance with... more performance

I understand though... its still not an easy choice. The new M3 is just simply AMAZING; it has an awesome balance of everything. The new GT-R will have incredible track capabilities & has a great legacy.

Either way you go, its still a thumbs up

Thats what I mean, It will be hard to decide which priorities I have LOL. I already have the 2007 Sedan (Which will probably be replaced by either the EX or hopefully an LS600H at some point in time) and I don't know if I want all out performance, or performance & luxury.

Surprisingly, the car is going to be "cheaper" than everyone anticipated; in the US, it going to start somewhere in the mid-50s. Between the carbon fiber roof, the new V-8, and the electronic rear limited slip diff. it is amazing that they make any money from it. You are pretty much getting the mechanical pieces equivalent to the Ferrari F430 for 55K. This is in addition to the weakening foreign exchange rate between the Euro and the US dollar. In business, it's a double whammy when your costs are in the more expensive rate (EURO) and the revenue/income is from a cheaper rate (USD).

Thanks BMW!!!!

The way they hedge this is by building the X5 and Z4 in South Carolina, with USD, and then sell them in Europe for Euros. BMW actually has one of the largest profit margins in the auto industry.

FTR, I always thought it was going to base (before taxes, title, etc.) around $55k. Mark my words, the 135i will base around $33k as well.

Not exactly sure what you mean by this

I wouldn't dare to "compare" a 55k beauty to a 175k masterpiece

Either way, the M3 is going to be a dream car. I just wished it had a little more race/track spirit of the E46 M3. Can't complain about more refinement if the performance is excellent to begin with though

Why? From a mechanical standpoint, what is it about the F430 that you wouldn't compare to the new M3?

- 4.3 Liter V8 producing 490 HP/ 343 TQ
- 3196 lbs of weight
- Mid-Engine
- One of the best handling cars in the world
- Ceramic Composite Big Brakes

Personally, I wouldn't dare to compare an M3 to a supercar like the Ferrari F430 which is, obviously, far superior in every way in every catagory.

I love the E92 M3... its an excellent car. But compared to a Ferrari? No chance at all (even from a mechanical standpoint like you stated).

Yes, their non-German operations (US included) will help with diversifying both the systematic and the unsystematic risk of their business, but it is still financially painful when you get to the bottom-line of the P&L. The thing with hedging (or any other risk factoring systems) is that it only helps, rather than removing the risk completely. I think they are concentrating on the volume side of the equation and relaxing the price side (for the US market at least).

I agree with you regarding the 135i pricing; It will be in the low 30K mark.

i scoped two m3s on ventura blvd the other day , caught up to the first one, old guy wasn't too fun didnt wanna tell much, then the second one was a younger guy and we told him to rev it, the movie doesnt give it justice, it sounds very exotic like a 360 ferrari, then we found a blue one in a shopping square should be getting the pics from that experience soon, great looking car.

True. Another thing IMO is that the US is BMWs largest market, they want to stay competitive here and expand North American sales, which would jive with your volume comment. Either way I think we are very fortunate to have BMWs priced the way they are in this country, although because of our emissions and safety standards we will never get the REAL good stuff (cough, CSL, cough).

I definitely think this is the best video out there right now. This is the only clip I've seen where they run it at redline pretty much the whole time. Sounds excellent!
