Re: Rx-8

RX-8s are more in-line with IS300s and BMW 328s; not serious competition for the G.

We dominate them. My friend thought his could hang with my G, but even with my average/below average take off abilities, I smoked him.

Re: Rx-8

I tried playing with an RX-8 today, but they didn't seem interested- I guess they were too intimidated by my G...

Re: Rx-8

They're actually not that slow. Several of my customers came in for tint and some performance parts. I've driven both the auto and 6 spd...........all I can say is - big difference between the two. The auto feels excessively slow off the line. The 6spd on the flip side is actually rather quick. The power, of course, kicks in a little later in the tach, but power delivery is rather smooth. It doesn't feel like the S2000 despite what some car mags have said.............all I can say is - smooth for the 6mt and feels like a Civic for the auto.

Re: Rx-8

i find it slow.... i drove this GIRL's 6 speed rx8. no torque. The only way to get the car going is to friggin hit near redline on every gear. G's would totally smoke it.

Re: Rx-8

Did you guys see that Best Motoring video with the g35, s2000, rx-8, rsx, and a few others??? I lost a lot of respect for the r-x8 after seeing it finish dead last, behind the rsx/integra.

Re: Rx-8

Read the thread below this happened in September three weeks after I got my G coupe. About 700 miles on my coupe at the time if I remember correctly.

Re: Rx-8

Yea. My friend's RX8 is a black 6-speed. I heard the AT is only 4 gears, and is tuned for less power. How sad. I wouldn't even bother driving one of those. The RX8 has no torque, whereas we have it all through the band.

Re: Rx-8

Actually, the RX-8 didn't finished last in the Best Motoring test. The Mazda Roadstar finished last. That gave Mazda a 1-2 in the last place category. What is really funny, is that in the first lap the driver of the RX8 is commenting about how the car feels so powerful. After that, it was really surprising at how easy the S2000, Skyline Coupe and WRX walked the RX8 on the straights. His comments about the power changed to it needing more at the end of the race.

Personally, I lost respect for the RX8 after test driving one. Contrary to the comment above, the engine feels EXACTLY like the 4-banger in the S2000 in a bulkier and slower car. From being a Miata owner; I can positively say the RX8 handling is definitely not as crisp as its lighter bretheren, but far more nimble than the G35. There is never a ramp of torque, it just keeps reving. In an S2000, you never feel the VTEC kick in. You hear it and it keeps reving the same amount until you hit the limiter at 9K. The RX8 feels exactly the same. Unless you are reving past 6K, you'll have a hard time even keeping up with base model Civics. This is probably the major factor why sales are so poor right now and why my local Mazda dealer has over 50 RX8s on the lot.

Re: Rx-8

The auto RX-8 is a complete waste, isn't it only like 200hp whereas the 6-speed is 239hp? I can't believe that the auto transmission takes power away like that...anybody who gets an auto RX-8 is sooo stupid. I don't care if it's an inconvenience for you to do stick or whatever...but on the RX-8, you CANNOT justify sacrificing 40 horsepower just so you can sip your coffee while you drive.
But it was Mazda's mistake to use such a poopy 4-speed auto for the RX-8...jesus it's a freaking sports car, how ya gonna give it a 4-speed auto when the new Audi S4's auto (for example) is a state-of-the-art 6-speed auto???
Anyways, I think the RX-8 is definitely a nice sports car as long as you get it in stick and you know how to drive it.
