Is this the same V6 that's in the Altima/Maxima?

sorta but not.
The '07 G35 uses a VQ35HR engine. This is newer than the 1st gen G's VQ35DE. The VQ35DE is what the Altima and Maxima use.

From what Nissan says this engine only carries over a very small percentage from the previous generation. There's new intake/exhaust manifolds with variable timing, new and lighter internals, higher compression and a higher redline.

Its the same VQ motor yes...but the block and engine size are about the only thing the engines have in common.

The engine code for the '07 G35 is VQ35HR (VQ denotes the engine series, 35 is for 3.5 liters, and the HR stands for High Response), likewise the engine code for the G37 is VQ37HR.

funny thing is, from a roll I have a real good feeling that an 07 altima v6 6mt from a roll will keep rite up with the G.

You think so? Reason i ask is me and my friend were playing around the idea of running my G auto and his 6mt altima V6 on the track just to see how it would compare.. i've been telling him he would loose because he would mis shift

My bro just got 2007 V6 altima (auto) and that thing hauls. The CVT is so smooth I can't even tell when it shifts gears.

The salesman was trying to explain what CVT is and said it eliminated "shift shock", which drew a blank stare from me. I had never heard that before, and maybe its a technical term, but I found it funny at the time and jsut laughed at him. You know typical car salesmen, most know less about the cars than the customers

You missed a letter. It's a VQ37VHR under the hood of the 37. The extra V denotes that the motor features Nissan/Infiniti's VVEL system for the intake valves.

The reason you couldn't tell when it was shifting gears is because CVTs don't have traditionally "stepped gears." They don't "shift" at all. This allows the engine to operate at it's most efficient speed at all times.

Ahh yeah forgot the V, good catch.

And yes CVT's don't actually have stepped gears and hence do not shift, this was why it felt "silky smooth". Funny thing is that the new Lancers have CVT's, yet have paddle shifters. The car's ECM will have the car jerk to imitate a gear shift...hilarious.

without a doubt...they are quick, they chrip 3rd like its going out of style. From the dig would be a diferent story because of the launch.

I am personally not a fan of CVT. The reason he says it reduces shift shock though is because it does. CVT is a belt driven transmision that has no gears, therefore no shifting ever goes on. The blet just expands and contracts during different throttle responses. I personally dont like it, its definatly more sluggish then a traditional auto, but I cannot argue that it is very very smooth.

The CVT in my sisters 07 altima is smooth, but in stop and go LA traffic it feels like the trans is falling apart. It feels rough as the trans downshifts from 2nd to 1st, a strong dud. I put it in manual mode and keep it in second, this keeps the ride smooth. I should bring it in and see what's up with it...

Don't they chirp because they're FWD (and do the Alti's have LSD)? Still impressive at speed - I do think they'll run with a G35 auto from a roll, but not from a dig (there's something like a .5 second 0-60 difference, which is significant).

^^ Altima 0-60 is 5.7?

All I know is our past Altima 3.5 was a rough-running car at 40K miles, especially at WOT above 4K. It had strange and loud harmonics that transmitted into the cabin. So I'm pretty sure the engines are quite a bit different, even comparing the past non-HR G35 3.5 to an Altima 3.5.
