G35 Sedan vs Lancer EVO/Sti...your thoughts

There are some who say that the Lancer Evolution is the greatest performance car to ever come out of Japan and one of the greatest overall performance cars in the world. I've driven a Evo and its great. It is a better performance car than a G35 yet the G35 is pretty quick and good in the real world. For the money I spent on the G35 I could have swung a Evo BUT I was concerned with reliabilty and image etc.

I'm sure some of the younger members like myself might have compared our G35 against the EVO/Sti. Sometimes I'm not sure if I made the right choice in getting the G35 sedan b/c I like rawness yet the G35 is satisfying.
Any thoughts on this issue?

Can't really compare the G35 with the EVO or STi... The G35 is a nicer car to get from point A to point B in while offering nice power too. Just a nicer more grown up feel.

The EVO and STi are just huge toy cars... a few minor mods can get you so much power out of either of the two.

STi/Evo>G35 any day and time if its speed and handeling. G35>STi/Evo if its comfort, any day, any time.

My sisters BF has an STi, it walks away from our G at half throttle lol

A comparison between the G35 & STi/EVO isn't such a great comparison.

EVO/STi: Affordable Rally-bred Track cars

G35: Luxury Sports cars

Even though, in terms of stock power, they are similar. The EVO/STi are specifically manufactured with performance in mind, whereas the G35 is more of a blend of luxury, comfort, and performance. Therefore, even though in acceleration, stock for stock, the difference isn't that much as compared to the G35, an EVO's & STi's are excellent handling vehicles with a good grunt in acceleration from the factory that should easily outperform the G35 in a road course track.

These two cars have two different things in mind.

Can't compare. One is a rally car and one is entry luxury sedan. However, since i sold my G35 coupe, I will be sporting an Evo X when it comes out

^^^jackygor,

Were you the one that had the thread about having to give up the G35 because of snow right? In that case, the EVO X is the great car in terms of performance & traction in any weather.

Too dangerous driving a G35 in a snowy canyon.

I need something with AWD, but i think that a Evo X is a downgrade from my coupe.

335xi Coupe, S4, maybe even a G37 AWD Coupe [if it ever comes out]?

They are really pricey though.

Only a new G will come even close to keeping up with an STi. And the STi still walks away from it..

I keep hearing this yet isnt the power to weight ratio similar. Evo's/Sti's are somewhat heavy...

I know how these cars work. I've driven them and raced against them at the drag strip many many times.

As far as acceleration itself, they are quick. But out of the box, it isnt too impressive [current EVO or STi]. But a few simple mods, and these things fly!

Handling is superb out of factory.

After 40-60 mph a current STi would not walk an 07 G35 Sedan or G37 [and vice versa]. It's not like if it matters anyhow since they're completely different cars.

Yup, I am that dude! WAYYYY too dangerous to drive the G in the snow. Especially when I am out and it suddenly start snowing, that is the scariest part

Yup, I know it will be a downgrade from my coupe in terms of looks and class, but it sure is more practical and fast! Oh well, you win some you lose some.

To OP

If you want cheap speed then EVO/STi is your choice. I think you can hit 12 second in a quarter mile with all the bolt ons and a tune (on the evo 9). Don't quote me on this though
