I drove the 2nd. gen today and decided to keep my 04 6MT

I drove the new G37 S and it is really a nice machine, the interior is great and the engine is very soothe all through the range; however, the 0-60, 0-120, 40-100, and 60-120 speed tests we did against my 04.5 were disappointing... We both drove each car and the new G is just about equal in acceleration to my very lightly modded 04.5.

Due to the results I will definitely buy my G at the end of my lease next year... I must say, I do wish my interior was closer to this new one but I cannot see letting this G go for the new gen. The looks alone of this gen and the comparable performance was what made my mind up today...
I guess it's the extra weight, but whatever it is, there is no advantage for me to upgrade now. I sure was expecting the new G to 'smoke' my G and am happily surprised it does not.
Infiniti would need another 50 or so more HP and some extra torque before it would be worth it (to me) to buy the new gen G.

This is just my humble opinion from todays drive... I cannot put down the new G because I am still very impressed with the interior, the seats, the seatbelt position etc. but I would have liked a greater boost in raw performance and maybe a little weight reduction because it did feel heavy in the twisties...

I will be seeing you here in the 2003-2007 forum for quite awhile... Long live the Gen 1 G35 Coupe

That's weird. When I test drove a G37, I thought it was faster than my 03 G35. Maybe it was just cause I was expecting it to be faster.

New car may not be "loosen up" & reveal full potential until after a few thousand miles, on average, G37 should be 0.5 second faster on 1/4 mile than G35. Individual car may vary a bit too.

I agree but that is still not enough difference to justify spending 40K and it won't get any lighter over time either.

htownboy,
Thanks for your honest impressions between the two cars.....

I was seriously considering trading/selling my 04 for the G37 as well. But, for some reason I didn't have that total WOW feeling, despite the upgraded interior etc.

I think the new styling, as nice as it is, still doesn't thrill me like the first time I saw the 03-04's......And I just can't justify the $8,000+over my original price on my 04' for all that new technology.

I'm still not ruling it out completely, but right now I don't feel the need to move out of my car for the G37.

Maybe in the future....09? who knows maybe they will make some more styling changes to wow me over again....but only time will tell.

Wow, Very Suprised. The G37 Does Have A Lot Of Curves To It, But It Does Come Down To Power And Handling As Well.

i felt the same way...i drove it about 4 days ago, and initially the looks turn me off but the interior was great.. felt a little smaller than my 06 but the quality is awesome... brake upgrades were noticable but as far as performance i expected more from the car... alll in all im glad i have an 06.

dropped my 07 for an oil change today. Saw the G37 and sat in it . The interior is very nice, but a little too busy for me, I guess you can get use to it but i dunno. The front is nice if you look at it dead on. any other angle it is bleh . The side profile view of the whole car and the rear is just not attractive at all. Another thing is i dont like the 2 fake air ducts, the not so dark plastic cover did not look right on the ducts. Hope i can test drive when i go back to get my car

I wrote a detailed post about this exact subject a few days back.

My impressions on the performance of the 08 are identical to yours--the engine revved fast and smoothly, but there was little grunt there. I can't figure out how a car with 50 hp more than my 04 can feel so slow.

And, according to the dynos, there is supposed to be more useable torque and hp available throughout the range--I don't get it because the car felt lethargic.

Not to mention the clutch was worse than the previous gens.

Price is now too close to the 335 for me to justify the new g37. I will keep my G35 coupe and then someday, upgrade to the g35 seden (hopefully, g37 sedan)

If I had the dinero, I would roll with the new 335i over the G37. Since I don't I would def take a 1st gen Coupe over it. I love the interior, and front fascia. I'm def not feeling the humpty rear though. I do love the new Sedan though...

i had the same exact speculations as him when i first test drove the G37. For a person that has the g35 it is not really worth trading it in and spending over 4K to pick up the new G37. The only improvement in my eyes that the g37 has over the g35 is the interior build quality, other than that i dont think the 50 HP that the g37 has over my g35 (which can hardly be felt) will sway my decision.
