Crazy M5 equipe with alot of speeding gadgets.

Quote:
Roy was just recognized as the record holder for driving from NY to Santa Monica pier in 31 hours and 4 minutes, besting the time set by "David Diem and Doug Turner clocked in a Ferrari 308 during the 1983 US Express run" of 32 hours and seven minutes. That's 89MPH for over 31 hours. What's made me especially proud is that Alex wrote about automotive laser jammers and radio scanners for Gizmodo under a previous regime. The seven time world rally champ avoided cops and found his way with a dash full of gadgets, including multiple scanners, jammers, detectors, and other mods on his BMW M5. Equipment is documented in the video above, but one thing not emphasized is that the guy had a plane spotting police activity en route.
The actual time was verified by gas station timestamps on credit card receipts and by Jalopnik editors who witnessed the start and finishes, but Guinness won't have anything to do with verifying illegal acts. The actual race happened a little over a year ago, but Alex couldn't tell anyone of his exploits until the statute of limitations was up in all states he drove through. Congrats to Alex for his spectacular performance. For all the details, there's more at Jalopnik [Departure, Finish, the Record and Gear

Daaaaaaaaaaamn

So when is this race going to happen?

2,776 miles roughly between NY, NY and LA

average speed (none stop) 86.75 mph

Lets say that the fuel consumption is about 19 gallons per mile
Car equipped with roughly 40 gallon fuel tank
For that trip car going to need around 150 gallons of fuel.
With fuel capacity 40gallons about 4 stops are going to be made withing the trip. Each stop 20 minutes
In order to make that time (32 hours 7 minutes) they are going to have to travel around 100mph between fuel stops.

I say it's very much doable.
Prolly don't even have to go over 120mph. And I do that every day with only V1.

Nice list of equipment though.

lol lazy eyes, read the text too will ya. its already been done a year ago. but since his car was loaded with so much illegal stuff, he had to wait a year for the statue of limitation to expire in every states that he cross. it was 89 mph average his speed.

and to be honest, after reading and seeing this, i am really considering buying a V1. but that thing is huge and expensive. plus an 05 sedan dont have the ideal power jack position to connect the power line.

Whats easy about travlling at higher speeds as well, it keeps you awake. i find when i stick to the speed limits on roadtrips, i get bored and tired and usually have to pull over lol With this and some coffee they can pull all nighter

19 MPG in an E60 M5? Probably more like 9!
