I just read an article in Automobile mag on the G8. I squarely mentions performance vs the BMW and I think interiors vs the Audi. All for a sub $30k starting price.

Not bad if the interior is solid. We all know the engine/tranny are good.

I know Pontaic isn't really invoking stellar thoughts of quality and such but this IS a Holden and will be built in Aussie land (thank God!). hehe

I do know for a fact that this G8 has nothing on the new G coupe or sedan. The styling is a far cry from Infiniti. But the Holden wagon looks beautiful. I mean it's IS up there with the Europeans in the looks category.

I just don't necessarily see people shopping for a new G also looking at the G8. Way different on price and image, as you've said. I don't mind the G8, I would maybe consider it on price/performance, but I don't think I'm necessarily your mainstream G buyer. Maybe Pontiac would like to think it's BMW's competition, but I think those two markets are even farther separated. JMO.

You like the Commodore wagon? Dude, you are getting old.

G35 is a higher class. It is like a Lexus. A G8 is a pontiac..a POS...a rent a car...a car someone bys when they dont have the money or creditworthiness to buy a Infiniti/Lexus/BMW.

Riiiiight

Newsflash buddy, Infiniti (division as a whole) cannot hold a candle to the rest of the luxury playing field...except maybe Acura.

Its not like G's are extremely expensive, the G8 GT will cost about the same as a G35, but its a sports sedan, not a luxury sports sedan so its an apples to oranges comparison. Some people will only buy domestic and this car is great for them...despite the fact it comes from the land down under, while others only buy foreign. A lot of people just don't care for the luxury features and just want a fast fun car, which I've read that this car is pretty damn fun. It certainly looks a lot better than that awful GTO. Its main competition will be against its domestic counterparts (300C, Charger) since it won't offer the bells and whistles found on most luxury sedans.

Here's another news flash. You can rent Infiniti and even Lexus.

Plus it's a Holden not Pontaic. You do know Infiniti is just a glorified Nissan right? Try to buy an Infinti in Japan. See what happens

You can have your creditworthiness for what that's actually worth and 2nd place

I agree and disagree I guess. Isnt the 6.0 LS2 that was in the latest GTO putting out 400hp/400ftlbs? If that's the case then why is the same 6.0 in this upcoming G8 only putting out 360-370hp? I think they detuned it on purpose because of what you just said. They want to bring a GXP. Odd thing is that GXP should be putting out more like 450hp? I think they don't want to step on the Corvette and CTS-V toes.

The only thing that means to me is that it "should" be relatively easy to get the G8 up to Corvette/GTO numbers. As long as they didn't lower the compression or something major like that.

Hopefully it brings the R8s styling stateside untouched as well although going off of what Pontiac has done to the Monaro and the Commodore I doubt it.

?? "aren't so great?" It ran low 13's at around 107mph stock. How is that not great?

They should be direct competition. "way different price?" A G8 GT and G35 are within a few hundred $$.

If the G8 came out sooner, I definitely would've considered one vs. my G35.

The interior is supposed to be nicer than the GTO (which had a nice interior), overall size should be similar to G35. It should be as quick or quicker than the G35, but with more low end, and better fuel economy.

People need to get over their "badge stroking" issues. You guys are starting to sound like BMW drivers.

The engine in the GT is straight from Australia. It's not a detuned LS2 really.

But, like mentioned before, they're leaving room for a 410hp+ GXP model. That should be pretty sweet.

I think it was Motortrend a few months ago that drove a Commodore SS and said, "The closest driving comparison would be to the last generation (400hp) BMW M5."

I don't think we'll see anyone comparing a G35 to an M5 for driving dynamics. That's a HUGE compliment to the G8.

I'll reserve final judgement till I drive one, but it should be an awesome ride. Too bad the only thing holding it back will be the 2" Pontiac badge on the front. Don't judge the book by its cover!

Where did they source these LS2s? I suppose we won't know what's inside until someone gets their hands on them. I would "guess" the easiest way to supply engines from the USA is to ship them over there assembled. If they want to reduce the power for the Aussie market, then a simple ecu tweak, cam spec or exhuast restriction would be the easiest way. VS building a different engine with less power for the Aussie market. I could be wrong though. There could be a packaging restriction inside the engine bay that makes them use a diff intake manifold. but that didn't seem to happen with the older GTO when it came here.

*sigh* The fact that this is a serious question, and getting serious replies, is definitely pushing me toward trading my G for a 335ci. I'd slap someone if they mentioned a pontiac in the same sentence as my car in person.

I know..I was like WTF...and then these mullet crackas start saying how a PONTIAC is comparable to a G. If its soo good why do they have soo many incentives and depreciate so fast??

You can get an used 03 G35 sedan w/ decent miles for $17k or so. That's 1/2 of it's value in less than 5 years.

Yeah, like our Gs have wonderful resale value. Cripes people are dense.

That doesnt prove anything...
EVERY car depreciates. How much do you think a used BMW etc is worth once u drive it off the lot?? You can get a similar one to our G's at a similar price. For example a 70 K Benz bought today is worth half its value in a coiple of years...

You still havent proven that a PONTIAC is in a G35's league though. Having a similar 0-60 doesnt mean it is...
Also why dont u call a rent a car company and TELL ME which is more expensive to rent a G35 or a Pontiac??
