I've narrowed my new car choices down to these two options. I don't want to buy brand new, so I'm looking at either a 2005 or 2006 model year. I've always loved the G35 but I've never actually driven one. I've driven my friend's 2006 STi on numerous occasions and it's a BLAST! However, I'm not sure the raw driving experience would get on my nerves after a while. Thoughts?

STi is easy and cheap power, g35 is the opposite

I'm not planning to mod either car if that's what you are getting at. But I know what you mean.

with the G35 you get more class and the handling is very stout for what it is, but it just can't compare in performance with the
STi. Stock for stock theyre pretty close in straight line speed (from a roll), but you'll surely be getting a lot of looks from girls in the G. When youre in the STi you'll be getting looks from other car enthusiasts not girls.

a) the Legacy doesn't have enough headroom and is much tighter inside. and b) the Legacy is far less refined in terms of driving experience. It just doesn't feel "right". I'm guessing this will be the case with any comparison between the two brands; I also drove a WRX and found the same. Have fun deciding! |

Drive the G35. Its tough, as the G has its pros and so does the STi. Do you need four doors? If so, go for the STi. If not, G. I am on the verge of either getting one car to replace my G or getting an STi as a daily. Two awesome choices you have!

Wow I like this thread.. No fanboi comments yet that flame the STi like the past threads that were similar!
The STi and G are complete different monsters in their own sense. The STi can easily get power without having to dump the $ a G would need. But you said you weren't modding.. The STi seats are not as comfortable as the G seats. The G coupe seats are probably the best seats I've ever owned.. (I've had Acuras, Hondas, Recaros, Sparco's..) The G definitely has its perks with all the fancy little toys. If you want the heated seats, electronic adjustable seats, styling.. It's for you. The STi has some of these little toys, but doesn't have the luxury of heated seats, automatic dual climate.. But also has the AWD which is excellent if you are planning on getting around in different weather (which you probably won't in OC.. unless you go snowboarding alot). The STi has a bigger trunk and 4 doors. The STi has a slightly rumble from the boxer engine in the interior.. the G has its interior noises also. 2 Different beasts.

i was in a similar conundrum when i was looking for a car, the sexually transmitted infection (how could they choose such an unfortunate acronym?), just didn't have the reliability reputation, (every one i know who has owned a subaru told me to avoid them like the plague), and like previously mentioned, they don't have the "allure" of the g coupe. people will think you've got taste when you mention you have a g, people will look at you weird and probably back away if you mention you have an sti.
that and the insurance must be insane, i think there's more in the scrap yards than on the roads now, at least around here.

If you're going for looks, G hands down.

Drive both cars, they are very very different. It depends on your personality and what you want. I think my G coupe is way too soft and plush, but then again, my ideal daily driver is a Porsche GT3 RS. Then again, I know people that think even an M3 is too harsh of a car for a daily, and more than a few that think the STi is the same way. I've never met someone that thinks the G is too rough as a daily, so chances are if you're not a very hardcore, track it on weekends kinda person, you'll be better off with the G than the STi.
