EVO IX
The new EVO nine will be here in about six months.
Tell me what you think. The specs. 310-320 horsepower, do not know the torque. Same engine just tweaks to the induction and a different exhaust. By looking at these numbers I would have to say this thing is going to be no joke. Just came out in Japan, on its way to America. |

Re: EVO IX
Actually, it'll have 281hp. It'll also have a 6 speed box along with a possible center differential (active or mechanical, they're not sure yet).

Re: EVO IX
In Europe, the Evo8 has more editions than what is available here. For example, the 2.0 Turbo Evolution VIII FQ-330 has 330 hp (as the name implies).

Re: EVO IX
"is it a lancer?"
yeah, it shares the same frame and much of the interior. that's it though. is the maxima just an altima in the end, since they share the same chassis? |

Re: EVO IX
The Evo 9 will not be here in 6 months that's complete BS. However, the new Evo 8 MR (Mitsubishi Racing) will be here in 6 months... http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthr...&pagenumber=17

Re: EVO IX
In reply to: Doesn't it share the same engine too, just with DOHC and a turbocharger, but with a lower compression ratio? Actually, the Lancer Ralliart has a larger engine than the Lancer Evolution, sort of like how the Impreza RS has a larger engine than the Impreza WRX. But in the end, it's a "Lancer" Evolution. If the SRT-4 is just a Neon, the EVO is just a Lancer. And the STi is just an Impreza. Here's what I don't get: why don't these companies just wrap these cars in sexier sheet metal and sell them as something else? Does it help to sell base Neons and Lancers, or something? I'd think it'd have the opposite effect. I could never bring myself to buy a fully loaded Impreza RS with the WRX sitting right there, and then when the WRX is fully loaded you only need a few thousand more to get the STi. I'd always feel like my car was inferior, even within its own model line. But if you take me to a Nissan dealership, and the salesman tells me that the Sentra's internals are the same as the 350Z (they're not, but just go with me on this), I think that's something that would excite a tuner. His Sentra may look ordinary now, but there's a 350Z lurking beneath the surface for when he's got a bit more money. Then again, maybe that would cut into 350Z sales. I don't know, all I'm saying is, I'd be much more interested in buying an EVO if it wasn't associated with the Lancer. Mitsubishi's other products are so... bleh. They're like the Pontiac of Japan right now. -Jack Obsidian '03 G35 Sports Coupe (for sale) |

Re: EVO IX
In reply to: That's exactly right. All of those cars, including the Lancer, are nothing more than souped up econoboxes. I respect their performance, but that's about it. When you start getting to the $30k price range for what is essentially a fast econobox when you get down to it, then I start to question the real value of these cars. I respect the SRT-4 a lot more because they kept the price down to $20k. But $30k+ for a boosted Lancer? That's a bit much, IMO. There are a whole bunch of other cars I would rather drive for that money. 2003 G35C, 6MT, DG/G, Aero/Nav/Premium 2002 Corvette Z06, Electron Blue/Black |

Re: EVO IX
If you think the Evo is just a souped up Lancer, you don't know much about cars.
First, the Evo doesn't just have a blown version of the Lancer 2.0 liter. The bore and stroke are different, the cylinder heads use different materials, the Evo has DOHC (lancer does not). The drive trains are completely different, the Evo is AWD with 3 differentials, the Lancer is FWD. They do have similar suspensions and body styles, but clearly Mitsubishi created a new car to look like the Evo to sell it on the Evo's reputation. |

Re: EVO IX
I know a lot about cars, thank you. And if you've ever even just sat in an Evo and a Lancer, you will know that the Evo is built on the Lancer.
Look, the Lancer and Evo share the same chassis, same frame (the Evo just has a few extra welds), same suspension mounting points, same dimensions, same body panels (with some extra scoops and body cladding crap on the Evo), same interior, same doors, etc. With the exception of the AWD system, there is nothing about the Evo that a ricer couldn't do to a Lancer by throwing an aftermarket catalog at it. The fact that the Lancer is FWD with a different engine than the Evo with its AWD doesn't change the FACT that the Evo is really a modded Lancer. Just because a car has a different powertrain doesn't mean its an entirely different car. I recognize that there are MANY different parts on the Evo compared to the Lancer. But again, at the core, the car is a Lancer design. If it looks like a Lancer, it smells like a Lancer, and it feels like a Lancer, then its a Lancer! I don't care how much faster it is. Anyone who thinks the Evo is an entirely different car and shares nothing in common with the Lancer is in denial, or is completely ignorant about the car. 2003 G35C, 6MT, DG/G, Aero/Nav/Premium 2002 Corvette Z06, Electron Blue/Black |

Re: EVO IX
If I put an SR20DE in your Corvette, would you still want to call it a Corvette?
Just had to do it. But anyway, the EVO is a Lancer, model wise, body wise, interior wise, but it IS a different Lancer. 4020 P3MCG6T5I |

Re: EVO IX
Mistubishi even calls the Evo the "Lancer Evolution." An SRT-4 is a Neon, and an STi is an Imprezza. For that matter, an SVT Lightning is an F150.
There's no good or bad connotation to it.. they're just trim levels of the same platform. Granted, much higher trim levels with a lot more changed than just the seats and console options... but trim levels nonetheless.
