Any prospective drivers considering driving school?

i think it might help me to learn how to drive (racing sims aside) this amazing machine.

it seems that almost everybody that has tested it mentions something to the point about not being able to test it's limits - because they are too great. it seems like engine modding would be out of the question. instead, i should probably take that money and take driving lessons.

any thoughts?

I would not Mod either. Too much going on under the hood & tranny and would hate to have a warranty voiding issue.

Driving schools can be fun but usually you have to use THEIR cars, not your own. Even if they let you use your own, I wouldnt risk the potential damage from running over a cone (GTR's expensive carbon fiber underbody).

Personally I would rather spend that money on race tires & a helmet- and take them to a local circuit race track. Then you can really open up the GTR and learn it's limits.

the helmet was a given - race tires would be something to consider as well.

i've taken driving courses before (more tactical than racing). that was in a dodge neon, a viper, and i had one in a mazda 6, and another in a lotus (my favorite trac car to date).

you're right about not being able to learn our own car, and perhaps that money would be better spent on some track time driving my own car. now that i've left california - the closest track to me is virginia international raceway - and they don't have any open days (you have to be sponsored by a car club). i was also thinking about gauging to see who wanted to go as a 'club' to split the track rental fee.

with these tires and the warranty, etc... how would you apply these race tires? buy additional factory rims, as an extra set of 4?

Many of the car clubs run excellent DE events.
The BMW group here runs great & safe track DE events where you run your own car.
With the club here it isn't limited to BMW....
We have everything from Miata to Vipers.

Drivers are broken up into classifications, so if you're a noob; you don't run with the hot shoe gang.
You have an instructor with you in the car at all times.

It's the only place you can truly explore what a car like a GT-R is designed to do.
& you'll be MUCH safer on the roads as a result.

My M Roady loves it..

Yeah extra set of 4 average rims & race tires, probably would cost $3000 altogether.
