Ap2 S2000

I have been looking at a S2K for a long time as a beater, and I just happen to decide to go check one out. I went to a local Honda dealer to check out some second handed S2Ks. I test drove this 05 model with dark gray exterior with red interior. The condition seemed to be pretty good with only 32K miles.

Start with Cons:
Heavier clutch than G35/G37.
Not enough TQ
No Nav
Little cramped leg area (not bad tho')
Hard to observe blind spot

Now the Pros:
Sexy as hell
Convertible
Very silky 6MT
Short shift
VTEC
4 Banger so I assume the MPG is better than my G

Here's my thought after the test drive. Although the 6MT on this car is very nice, TQ on it sucked... it almost reminded me of driving my old 00 model Accord. The VTEC.... wasn't really impressed. Although it gave me the whoa feeling! when it kicked in, it only last maybe 1~2 seconds from the point it kicks in until it hits the redline. The price was set at 21K which also included the 100K mile power train warrenty. I drove this car last year before I bought my G... and back then it felt like the fastest car on earth, but now it doesn't feel nearly quick as my G... with all the TQ I have on my G. I really wanted a S2K before I drove it yesterday... now I don't know. What do you think I should do?

I'm picking one up summer '09, a lil short on funds.
Lacks torque?--> Turbo/Supercharger

Yeah, but like I said, it's gonna be my beater so I'm not planning on modding it. I'm probably gonna spend most of my allowance on my G.

Maybe I should just not get the S2K and wait til' next year to TT my car.

I plan on picking one up as well, but it won't be for awhile unfortunately. I've wanted an S2k for quite some time now as a weekend toy in the summer. It might not have the tq you are used to in the G, but it's great looks, convertible, amazing transmission, and superb handling more than make up for it IMO.

Go for it bro.

If you are so obsessed with torque, why did you look at the S2000? The S2000 is all about the driving experience! If you can't get pass thinking about torque, please don't get the S2000.

I own both cars and I like them for what they are. I won't compare the torque output from the 3.5L (3.7L in your case ) 6cy engine to the 2.2L 4cy engine . Similarly, I won't compare the handling of a convertible sport car to a sporty sedan. They are created for different purposes in my book. =)

Vtec feels so fast cuz once you VTEC, the revs climb faster

Clutch is WAY WAY WAY lighter than a G35/37.

You drove mine... you already know that. Heavy clutch is a bad sign unless it's aftermarket.

Go drive that yellow one with the Meisters I found you.

the fun factor for the S2000 is wayyyy more than the G35. Nimbleness, 9000rpm screamer, open top, and amazing gear box just begging to be shift & driver involvement.
the G35 is more of a cruising vehicle, just sit and relax.
you select a car based on what it offers. you don't get the S2000 for the trunk space or off-road capability. Similarly, you don't get an SUV for handling and fun.
