Why mod a Scion xB?

I'm seeing more and more of these cars on the road lately and they are completely tricked out. Am I the only one that doesn't understand why people are modding these hideous things? No offense to anyone that drives one, but to me they literally look like a shoe box with wheels. Why?

I actually have a thing for the xB =) I like the car... but like it as a beater, wouldn't trade in the G or anything, but I'm planning on getting one in the future.

It only 15k, tons of room, good gas mileage, decent 2.4L engine putting out 160hp I think....only CON is the look, but to me I don't mind having a milk carton shaped car =)

I'm pretty sure that most of the Scions you see weren't loaded enough to even cost 17k, let alone 25...

Apparently to some, the final product after millions (sometimes billions) dollars of R&D isnt enough.
