Good beater for around 2K

I'd like to use my tax refund for a beater to save gas and not put so many miles on the G ( I put 20K in 07 ).

I want to stay under 2K, prefer 2 doors and manual ofcourse. I was thinking something like a CRX, Celica, Tercel, Civic, Miata.

What do you all think??

Edit;

Of course the most important factor would be gas milage. The celica my friend lent me right now is getting 24-27 miles per gallon city driving and Im pretty content with that.

Get a little 99 Honda Civic. You can find those cars all day on Craigslist.org for short money some under 2k!

I have a 98 protege I paid 2k couple years back. Tires brakes and plugs are the only things I've had to do. Great mpg's w/ 97 hp engine!

Just a bit of math for you ... it would take 25000 miles for the beater to pay for it....

If gas was 3.199 for reg and 3.4999 for premium

25000 miles on the g35 will cost 5132 dollars

25000 miles on the beater will cost 2000 + 3075 dollars in gas...

17 mpg for g35 and 26 mpg for beater.

Also factor in insurance and maintenance on another car, plus you'd still be gassin' up the G, and it may not make much sense economically... but hey--for $2G's, I'd get a beater just to beat on...

And how do you factor in me not commuting 60 miles in the G everyday? My mom and her husband would pay half of the $40 montlhy insurance with the understanding that if either of their cars broke down they could use my beater. And last but not least, my mechanic is going to trade me the car for a broken down motorcycle I have sitting in my garage, so im not coming out of pocket with any cash except tags and title.

Anywho, this are the parameters I gave him to find me a car

Japanese, prefb 2 doors, COLD A/C, 4 cyclinders, 5 speed.

Lets see what turns out

Well that is a good point, however you have to consider the coolness of the G... JK... now that the car is technically 0 out of pocket cost... i can see the difference.

We have an 03 accord that i was going to trade for my G that we kept and my bro uses it as a beater... (nicest one i have seen lol) but it has a 120 K on it, so we just drive the BI**H OUT OF IT

Here's a better calculation for you... a little something called mileage-related depreciation:

I just crunched some numbers on KBB and the difference in private party value for a "good" '04 6MT coupe with 45,000 versus 60,000 miles on it is $1800...

Factor in the money you'd save on gas over those 15,000 miles, and the car has more than paid for itself.

In all actuality, with insurance and such, the car would probably still save you money, but may not actually pay for itself.

Either way it's a good idea to get a beater - and the same reason I regret trading in my previous car when I purchased my G.

Well not only that, but atleast me personally I love my G and want to make sure it lasts me for a while. Plus with the 5K or so I have dropped on mods Im wayyyy upside down on value as is. So Im goin to keep it till it falls apart, literally. A few yrs down the road Im sure I'll get another nice new car, then G will become the beater car.
