wrx sti
i know from a dig he would have had me, but i did a little playing with one the other day. not racing just some on and off from about 80 or so. it was pretty much even the whole time. I even started to pull on him in 5th. anyone ever drive or ride in one, do they start losing power up top? I'm just curious

Re: wrx sti
It must of been a bad driver. Stock they're capable of high 12's. Most get low 13's though. Which is more then enough to beat a G. Even from a roll.

Re: wrx sti
Yeah, but they're still pretty weak on the upper end. I could easily see a G walking one above 100 MPH and in 5th.
Look at the trap speeds on them in the 1/4 mile, and it tells all. It's only about 3-4 MPH faster than a G35's trap speed, yet its ET is about a full second shorter. That tells you that the WRX STi pulls very hard for the first 1/8th mile, then starts running out of steam. Race one 0-150, and I'd put my money on the G35. 2003 G35C, 6MT, DG/G, Aero/Nav/Premium 2002 Corvette Z06, Electron Blue/Black |

Re: wrx sti
When they're a full second faster on the final ET, 4 mph isn't that much of a difference. Since the car is rally inspired, most of the grunt will be in the 0-100 range where most rally cars spend their time at. From this, I'm sure the gearing is somewhat short compared to regular sports cars/luxury sports coupes(whatever you call it). I wouldn't be surprised if a rolling start from 80+ to 130 and above would lead to close races. Oh, and having a plenum would help big time. =P

Re: wrx sti
If you have awd why would you want to do a rolling start? If I bought my car to do that then I would get that new turbo neon. By doing a rolling start in an STi you're not using it's advantages and at the same time exploiting it's weaknesses. It does have rather short gearing though, but I'm fairly confident that it would still pull a g35 on a roll.
I have no actuall real world basis on this except a butt dyno test when I drove my friends 350z. He only ran a 14.1 with intake and exhaust. My car felt much stronger than his even up top. |
