911 Carrera

Well, got my [censored] handed to me again (previously by a corvette) All of you guys who say you get these rice rockets coming up to you and revving the engine.. I don't get that at all, I get nothing but these exotic sports cars. Anyway, was riding up the interstate doing like 80 or 90, when I get away from all the traffic theres a Porsche 911 in the middle lane by itself. It was this ugly maroon color? But it was a nice ride nonetheless.. I pulled past the guy and let off the gas for a second just to get a good look at his car then continued on. After I pulled away I see the guy coming up fast in my rear view and I couldn't do anything but smile.. He gets in the far right lane, I'm in the far left and we gun it at the same time. I was trying to find the right gear but of course he's pulling away from me, I couldn't complain because before this car I had a corolla so I'm satisfied just seeing what a porsche can do. Once I hit 110 I didn't have the nerve to go any faster.. we both slowed and I gave him a thumbs up.. all I can say is I didn't mind the beating.

Side note, on my way back I had an older model M3 act an [censored]. It was black and I know the guy had mods, whenever I'd punch it he'd pull up really fast on my bumper, I mean right ON my bumper. The guy was a dumb [censored], if you have the faster car thats cool but don't do sh*t that can get someone hurt.

Re: 911 Carrera

my roommate has a 2002 carerra, so i know exactly how fast it is. it is certainly a force to be reckoned with. i wouldn't mind loosing to a porsche, however, because i know how much he paid for it...used.

Re: 911 Carrera

Now, if you were supersized or turbonized, he probably would have still beaten you, but it would have been close enough to make him strach his head.

Re: 911 Carrera

i think supercharged or turbocharged you would have handed him his arse...hearing this story makes me miss my integra, i raced a 2002 carrera on the Palisades parkway from 60-130 mph multiple times and the same result...i gave him the spanking of a lifetime...*sigh - only $5K more til i go FI, can't wait!! nice story anyway!!

Re: 911 Carrera

Profile4 did the Carrera owner have the license plate "VRROOM" ??
Either way, I agree with Profile4, I think a forced induction Coupe would out-accelerate a 911. A Porsche's 0-60 is 5.0 seconds (vs our 5.5 - 5.7 seconds) and we match their torque.

Re: 911 Carrera

In general, I don't mess with Porsches with my G35. The only Porsches I toy with in the G are: Boxters, and 911 Carrera 4's, or Carrera Cabrios. Those are all fair game for a G35. The rest, prepare to get smoked.

Unless I'm in my Z06, then I can embarrass non-turbo 911's easily, except for the GT2 and GT3 models. Carreras are practically slow by comparison. The 911 Turbo is a very nice race against the Z06: comes down to driver everytime. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img]

And racing on an interstate doing 110mph can't get someone hurt?

Re: 911 Carrera

I could understand if we were weaving through traffic but as I stated..the porsche was in the far right lane..I was in the far left with NO traffic on the interstate at all. I also said I didn't realize we were going that fast and when I did I slowed down.. I think I had a little more respect for my safety and anyone elses than the guy in the bmw

Re: 911 Carrera

Nice Race.
Yeah it's all fun and games but i had a friend that was killed doing the same thing you guys was doing.
he was going around 100mph when something jumped out he waved and lost control of his car he smashed into the highway wall and was killed then and there.
Thats the reason why they have race tracks. please Stop the street racing. i know your parents don't wanna get a phone call saying that there son has been killed.

Thanks
Pam

Re: 911 Carrera

I can't look down on 911s since I own one. I can say this, we have 2 members of the Porsche club with stock 911 (996) 6MTs with the 3.6(2002+) 320hp that run high 12's in Ennis @ 110 mph stock. The current Carreras are as fast as the early 90's turbo. The autos are certainly slower, but they will easily dust my coupe. My 2480 lb 79' S/C 3.0L with web cams, SSI heat exchangers and a Bursch exhaust will dust my coupe as well. But, I don't think they will have a chance against one of are cars with a well tuned Vortech.

Same with me. The only people who've wanted to race me was an old guy on a motorcycle (he was doing the going fast then slow next to me and I'm like uhhh do you need something), and then a brand new viper last week (at a light). Again another really old guy. I don't know if it's because my car looks somewhat fast and I'm young so they want to teach sonny a lesson or what, but I'm not much into racing & definitely not against a motorcycle or a viper... geez..
