Angry New Nissans v. Infiniti

My boss just got a 2009 Murano.
The interior controls and technology matches my 2007 G.

I caught a glimpse of the new Maxima.
Same interior as my G.

I hate how Infiniti and Nissan are starting to merge the technology and interior aesthetic features.
It feels like my G is devalued in some way.
I bought an Infiniti because of these advances that Nissan did not offer.
Now it seems that the lines of distinction are becoming blurred.

Cost reduction. Well, you've had your fun for a year (the 07 models)... so yeah.

It sucks but I suppose we just have to get used to it. A lot of car companies are improving interiors and using them throughout their lines, or (in the case of Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infiniti) using them in both their base and luxury brands.

I don't see a problem myself. Parts sharing is common among all the Japanese luxury brands - I don't see why Infiniti should be any different. It's all about establishing model identity.

My hope is that the new, shared designs will increase sales and allow expansion of the true upmarket models like the GT-R. I'd like to see a performance M class to compete with BMW and Mercedes in the super-sedan category.

that's what you get with newer models. now if you need to downgrade, you're still getting the same layout as an infiniti. may not get free rental though.

Agreed.
I would love to see Infiniti's version of the M class.
The dealer would have me at their mercy every time I was in for service.
Trade in + a couple hundred more per month.

Problem is, other luxury companies like Lexus, Mercedes & BMW are becoming more exclusive. Nissan doesn't seem to care about Infiniti being exclusive. Being exclusive is a part of being a luxury company.

Yes Infiniti's are Nissans, Lexus' are Toyota's, Audi's are Volkswagens, etc, etc. But that doesn't mean they should disregarg being exclusive.

Case in point....
The Camry is looking more and more like a Lexus ES on the exterior.
But check out the interior styling differences in fit and finish....
The separation is distinctly clear....
