Thumbs up LOL my friend lost a wheel on 280!

So yesterday my friend lost his whole wheel off his 1950-60 VW bug while driving north on 280 near skyline / pacifica exits . I wasn't in the car, but he supposedly was driving, heard a weird noise, and then all of the sudden, KERPLUNK; quote: "you better hold on" (talking to my friend in the passenger seat) and he was slidding with 2 front wheels, and only 1 rear wheel, and scraping his axle on the ground for about 100 yards. Luckily, he made it to the exit, and pulled over safely after pulling the E-brake. His wheel kept rolling about a half a mile down 280, where he ran to find it. After he stopped, a man in a large truck (i think he was a mechanic) stopped behind him, and told him "damn you just grinded on your axle for a long time.. you're never going to get that car running again". Well after finding his tire and returning home to grab tools via his friend, I picked him up, drove him back to his car. We stood on the side of the road for about 20 minutes, jacked his car up, bent his drum brake back into a round shape, and placed the wheel back on, this time inserting the pin that was missing before! ... after tightening the lugs and putting it all back in place, he started up the engine, and began to merge back onto the exit lane. Although a bit wobbly, his wheel still works, and his car is drivable and he drove all the way home, with me behind him. Now he has to replace a couple of parts on his axle, but we sure proved that mechanic wrong

if so, your friend may want to turn himself in.

^2 LOL that really sucks.. his wheel is designed to bolt onto the drum brake, then the wheel + drum is held on with one lug screw type thing and a pin is supposed to be placed through it to hold it from unscrewing. He doesn't have any fancy wheels, seeing as how he got his car for free.

Same thing happened to my friend's integra a few years back. All four studs broke and his wheel went flying on the freeway. What was more surprising was the fact that it cost him $800 to get everything fixed..

I don't understand why you LOL'd and gave a thumbs up. He could have been seriously hurt, or some innocent driver could have been involved.

idk about the thumbs up, it just looked cool =D plz forgive me... anyways with the LOL it was just a funny situation how he got it running again after sliding for 100+ yds.. i wasn't laughing at the simple fact he lost a wheel, since it is dangerous, but more at the fact that his car is running again without any significant damage.
