my trip to bmw.

never drove a 335 before, so i was bored on my day off and i went to bmw to drive it...im only 19 yrs old, and i had my comfortable sweats on with a tshirt and a baseball cap on, so i needed a reason to be in there..so i told the guy i just got my g35 sedan and i wasnt happy with it, it wasnt all i had hoped it would be (complete lie right there obv.)...so anyway he had a black on black 335i fully loaded with prem/sport/cold weather/nav and everything, MSRP was $49,395, about $10k more than mine...so anyway on to the actual drive...

i think the car is highlyyy overrated..good power, more power on the low end, but i think our cars are faster on the top end, like on the highway...335 will win 0-60 mph...g35 will win 60-100 mph...thats kinda how i felt about the speed, and thats wat i expected too..

handling wise, i mean i dont think the 335 actually handles better, well it really doesnt because every review i read shows, like, identical numbers in the slalom testing and on the skid pad, so i know the cars pretty much perform the same..but feel wise, the 335 felt funner simply because its a smaller car, so it feels like its more throwable and light...on the track, i'll take my g with its limited slip and its ability to accelerate faster from higher speeds...

the auto transmission in our car is muchh better i think..its alot quicker to react, its much more ready to be driven hard, i feel like the 335 is too casual, it shifts very low in the rev range, shifts happen at like 1500 rpm i was like wtff...and its slower to downshift wen u push the throttle down...i tell my friends my g is like my little dog, its always ready to be pushed, wenever it senses i wana play, it gets excited, downshifts instantly, and gets me in the right gear, and starts wagging its tale wen i REALLY push it haha

anyway, wen considering price, and features, its not even close, the g blows it away...but even in performance, i'll take my g for small reasons like MUCHH better sport seats, real sport features like a limited slip, and much more aggressive transmission

funny quotes from the salesman that i smiled at:

when i said i wasnt happy with my g, he said "yea comparing the 335 to the g35 is like comparing apples to oranges"

when i pushed the 335 hard, he said "man this thing will BLOW AWAY that infiniti"

when he asked me how much horsepower my car had, and i said 306, 6 more than this, he said "yea but the g35 is a mid-size sedan"

hahahahhaha i had a blast on my trip <3

Dude you are 19 yrs old

Man, I wish I had a G35 when I was 19, I got mine at 29.

Nice post though, of course the 335i is overrated, why anyone would pay $10k for a car with less bells and whistles is beyond me. However, at least the guys in the 335i get slightly better perfomance for their money, can you imagine how it is for guys with the 328i. I love just blowing those cars on the Interstate.

I don't think much better sports seats is a small reason. You spend a ton of time in it!

I guess you test drove an auto 335i? I suggest you try a manual one. The shifts are much more smooth and precise although longer. Pulls very well compared to my '05 G35 and the '07 G loaner I had. Interior is a little too simple and boring though when compared to the Infiniti or for a luxury car. Overall, it's a nice car and would be worth the value if it was only $2-3K more than a G. However at closer to $6-7K it's a little out of touch.

besides that salesman being a moron:
1. that 335 will blow the G35s doors away at speeds above 60mph.
2. that automatic tranny also has a sport mode which will hold u in gear much longer
3. that automatic tranny does not need to hold gear as much as u expect because that car has alot of low end tq
4. Don't fool urself.
5. 335 has one of the nicest automatic trannies i have ever driven, and i despise autos.

Also test drove a 335 in both coupe and sedan before buying a new G. If my budget allowed it, I would have definitely gone with a 335 coupe. Kinda sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that you made the right purchase decision.

Help me understand why you believe your car is inferior to the 335i besides the slightly better perfomance? BTW I do believe the young man has a point about the 60-100. If you look at C/D, they do say the 335i does it in 5.7seconds and the G35X does it in 5.6. Low end torques helps with the 0-60/ 0-100 etc but once both cars are moving, it will be a blood bath

show me that stat, if there is a stat like that i will call car and driver right now and request the proof. There is no possible way g35 is even with the 335 in a 60-100 run.

werd. the only car that even has a small chance of beating the 335i is the 07 350z with the HR engine. even then the 335i still wins (with equal drivers)

^+1, HR-z would be a very interesting race although i would still think 335 would have a slight edge. Hell i wouldn't be surprised if the 335 pulled on the E46 M3 in a high speed run.

Have you driven a 335? Just wondering.

The 335 tests out much higher than the rated 300 HP.
