M3 beats GT-R & Porsche Turbo in C&D Comparison Test

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=1#post2734628

This is hilarious... Looks like we have either some BMW fan boys or Nissan HATERS over at Car and Driver... Did anyone read this issue that can shed some light on this idiot find?

It was actually a good read, and I'm not surprised that they liked the M3 over the GT-R.

I imagine the GT-R vs. M3 comparo is very similar to the G35 vs. 328i/335i comparo. The G35 is less refined and more "raw", whereas the BMW is more refined and "smoother"... but there are those of us who like a little rawness in our drive (just like how I prefer my steaks bloody instead of perfectly medium-rare).

The GT-R is more about function over form, whereas the M3 is offers a better compromise to those who lean more towards the esthetics.

It would be a tough choice for me, if it's my money. I wonder if I bought the GT-R if it would still be great to live with day-to-day after the novelty wore off.

I applaud C&D for not being all about the stats on paper and the almighty stopwatch.

+1

I think if the comparison was based solely on performance the outcome would have been different. If you look at the scoring chart a lot of the areas where the M3 outshines the others is interior room and comfort. I think even on that forum an M3 user even pointed out that since the back seat is graded under two areas the Porsche is by default already 12 points behind the M3.

this is why these comparisions are stupid... like anyone buys the 911 turbo or gtr for backseats, trunk space, and interior

Hey I'm not saying one way or another whether the comparison was stupid or not I'm just explaining on why C&D rated the M3 higher for those that haven't read the article.

It would be easy to just scan the thread headline and think "hey the M3 outperforms the GTR"

1. backseats - agreed... Take them right out for all I care.
2. trunk space - disagreed... Gotta fit two full golf bags back there!
3. interior - STRONGLY disagreed... Where do you spend all of your time when you're driving?

yeah C&D pissed me off on this one. the porsche and GTR are in different ballparks than the M3.there have been atleast 3 other comparison tests involvong the GTR and new m3, all of those said the GTR took it with a commanding lead. they shouldnt even include interior and comfort that largely into the scores. there sports cars not luxury sedans. C&D can suck it!

Agreed... but it's still a significant factor when evaluating any car.
