Smile First post...GTI owner seriously considering a G35 6MT...

Hey everyone...
I have a little over a year left on my current lease of my 2006 GTI. It's a fantastic little car that has some modifications to the suspension, exhaust and the software that it's actually quite a sleeper.

But the problem is, I recently drove a 2006 GTO and remembered just how fun RWD cars are! My dilemma is that I have a 1 year old and he is with me a LOT of the time-so I need a 4 door. Did I mention I also have to have a 6 speed?

Well that narrows my options down a LOT. Basically, right now there are only 3 cars that fit the bill for me- the Mercedes C Class, BMW 3 Series and the G Sedan.

Please share what your rants and raves about these cars or what you think about my options...are there any option groups I HAVE to have or one that you can't live without? I'd love to hear your opinions! Also, I don't even know what color to get!

Here is the current car (very fun but I miss the RWD)

and here's the reason I want a sedan...

Welcome, I'm very much in the same boat as you except I've got an Eos instead of a GTI. Check out this thread for my thoughts on the matter: Test Driving the G and Competition

Welcome! I had similar criteria actually. I traded in a Focus and a 350Z for my 6MT G35. I just didn't have enough time to enjoy the Z (2 kids) and the Focus just got on my nerves as a daily driver. Coming out of the GTI, you're used to a decent interior already and the G35 will keep you happy in that respect I think. And yeah, RWD makes it all worthwhile. Plus the engine is fantastic. The latest 0-60 I saw was 5.1 seconds (MT or C&D long-term test car). It's pretty quick.

The new C is a great looking car, but for the price you can't beat the G. I paid $31,500 for a 6MT Sport model.

Welcome! I moved your thread to the "Other Cars" forum, where you'll find discussions and comparisons of Infinitis vs. other brands. Also, by searching the '07 forum you'll find various threads on likes / dislikes on the G. Go to Forums, then Search. Here's one to get you started:

Very cute son! It depends where you are going to put his seat. If it's going behind you, the G is pretty much your only choice and then you will still have to move your seat forward a little bit as he grows. I have a 6, 4 and 16 week old. Infant seat is on the passenger side and requires the passenger side seat to be moved way far forward. Booster seat is on my side and I have to move my seat slightly more forward than I like, but it's still ok. You will have no room in the 3 series or the C class. They are way too small.

Well, he fits pretty well in my GTI right now so that's be kinda sad if he doesn't fit.

And he EVEN fit into this 2006 GTO I tested...

welcome to driver and nice VDub...are you only going into a sedan because it is easier to get your son in and out? Thats a tough choice you have because you already have a nice car and now you have to start from scratch with a new one...what ever you decided I'm sure you and your son will be happy...cute kid BTW

If you liked the GTO and need 4 doors.....another obvious option to look at would be a Pontiac G8.

It's basically a 4 door GTO.

I still like the G35 better, but the G8 is larger, has v8 rumble, and is cheaper.

The G8 is a pretty incredible car, especially for the price. It's fit and finish are top notch.

G35 all the way man, it'll last until your kid has a license! It would be a disservice to you if I told you to get a MB, Lexus, or 3-series because this car is it!
