Awsome track video ZR1 at Nurburgring

Here is a link to one lap of the Nurb in the ZR1 being driven by development engineer Jim Mero. The car is stock with the stock tires. Time was 7:26.4 top speed was 179mph

A damn long time. With a 140+ turns, that's just insane.

A couple of things on the video that I noticed.

1. There's no one on the track. Did they close it up for a few minutes to let the drivers clear out so that he could get an uninterrupted run around? That's why I don't take too seriously on the ring times. Some are ran with traffic, and others, like this one, was not. That affects times seriously and makes all this talk about GTR vspec vs. ZR1 a complete wash.

2. The driver was short shifting the last 1/2 to 2/3 of the track where he could have clearly ran it up much higher. I know some are going to argue that it's not necessarily faster to run to readline all the time. Sometimes short shifting lets you drive more consistently and thus get better lap times, but there were a lot of times when that wasn't the case. Did he encounter some problems during the run like overheating or did he just want to make sure he could finish without breaking down?

Go back to the 419garage.com website. There is a vid that they did where they sinc up the ZR-1 and the GT-R and run them side by side at the same time. GT-R gets whipped by almost 4 seconds.

You can rent out the track. You aren't supposed to go barreling down the 'Ring if its open to public traffic. And I know that there was a strong tailwind that day so he couldn't go completely balls to wall in many of the straights.

The driver (Jim/James Mero) is the chief engineer of the ZR-1, he also raced in some Le-Mans races back in 1995 while driving, surprise surprise, a Corvette ZR-1.
