Buying an Infiniti I30 used!!
my parents are looking to get another car to take on long road trips and sort of have as a beater, i found a pretty good deal on a 2001 infiniti I30, the guy is asking 6700 but it has 135k miles, the only thing im worried about is the mileage, any of you guys have any idea on how reliable the i30s are? and how much should i offer for the car?
any help is appreciated guys thanks

My best friend has had an I30 for quite some time, and he's had a lot of problems with it. He got it because he had a Maxima before, and was happy with it, but the I30 has been a nightmare for him. It's entirely possible that his car is a lemon though, but that's all that I know of them.

The I30 and Maxima are mechanically identical. Both use the same VQ30DEK for this model year. 2001 was the last year for the 3.0 VQ. Mechancially, the VQs run forever. No oil consumption problems or whatnot. But I'd take a close look at the tranny. Make sure it's been taken care of. ie.. regular fluid changes. Nothing inherently wrong with the tranny but any auto with 100k+ miles should be closely inspected.

Oh yea, my friend never had any engine troubles, all of his problems were electrical.

Never had an I30 but was very happy with the J30. Ran like a champ w/ 180K on the clock. I had it during my teens so I never really did anything other than oil changes and two tune ups. I did however had a heap of problems with the AC the last 6 months or so which is why I traded. But nothing that you wouldnt expect from a 10yr old car driven by a teen with 180K miles of use.

Seem like nice cars.
But yea, i agree. You can find them with less miles for less.

I30's were great cars... VQ for the win... even if it just highway miles, you should be ok...
my pops had a 2000 and he put 80,000 miles on it within 2 years... No problems, no recalls, nada seriusly check it out or find a different one with less miles
