New car

You guys may think I'm crazy, but I got rid of my girls (supercharged G35 and stock E46 M3). Picked up a brand new 08 vette (LS3), manual. I ended up taking a loss on my modifications, but I paid $41K for the vette ($6000 under MSRP).

As much as I love my G35, I had to cut the cord, I kid you not, I've probably paid somewhere around $5000 in the past year alone to fix the 50 catastrophic failures. It's such a shame it was an engineering disaster, it had so much potential.

So as for the vette, wow...the LS3 is no joke. Mine is still getting broken in, clutch and shifter are still stiff, not taking it over 3500 RPM. But I've driven my best friend's (a black twin to mine), that thing is stupid fast in it's sweet spot @ 4000 RPM. Bone stock, it's as fast, if not faster, than my G35 was, with 400 whp (supercharged though, a turbo G is a bit quicker). It's a very nice baseline though, to say the least. There are guys out there running high 11's in the 1/4 with just DRs.

I hope my girls are good to whoever picks them up. Now I have to find a genuine beater before December. No more of this two $60K cars crap, gonna give my wallet a break.

The thing that held me back from the z06 is that there's somewhat of a controversy in corvette world. Apparently 08 and 09 LS3s have repeatedly been dynoing at 380-390 whp. So there's a conspiracy theory that GM underrated the engine so the Z06 wouldn't look bad. I conducted my own little analysis with my G35 and my buddies 08 vette. The cars were consistently (I mean 10 times, maybe more) dead even to 50 or 60 MPH. Given that it was an upgraded auto vs. new manual, the transmission component was likely negligible (actually, my G probably shifted faster than his vette). So the power to weight ratios must be pretty damn close. I knew mine, 3550 lb car, 500 bhp (20% drivetrain loss), 7.1 lbs/hp. For the vette to have the same power to weight ratio, at 3200 lbs, it would need 450 hp, a value right in line with the conspiracy theory and dyno numbers (450 bhp with a 15% drivetrain loss is 382.5 whp). So if this car is truly underrated, which is a strong possibility in my mind, all you have to do is add an exhaust, a replacement air filter, and run half a tank of gas, and you've got a 3140 lb car pushing 470-480 bhp. Eerily close to z06 numbers, for $25,000 less.

Damnit, I just noticed all of the info in my signature and now I feel like my puppy died. I put so much time into that car.

Looks sick.
I just don't like the colour matched headlights that come with the vettes.
I would def blackhouse them.

Congrats man!

Thanks for all the compliments guys. The decision not to part out was really tough for me, it's a lot more complex than it may seem. My SC has broken twice in less than a year (due to defects), bottom line, it was a piece of doo doo from a bad batch. Vortech warranties are non-transferable, and I wouldn't blatantly lie to someone and say it was running like a champ. So basically I would have been selling a supercharger that had a very high risk of going bad again and the potential buyer would have to eat any repair cost. The only way I could sell it under those circumstances would be at a ridiculously cheap price. The amount that I would net and the time required just weren't worth it. I'm the type of guy who really values my time. Making a $1000-$2000 profit over 6 months just wasn't worth it to me, putting the car back to stock, cleaning all of the parts, listing them, negotiating, packing everything and shipping. The other factor is that the 08 vettes are starting to move because of the low prices, the 09s are out and are listing for pretty close to MSRP. So had I kept the G for a few months to part out, there's a pretty good chance the 08 vette I wanted wouldn't be available and I'd be stuck with an 09 that costs $4000+ more. We called this whole experience the "differential equation", it was brutal, there were a lot of variables.
