Honda question for anyone out there.

I posted this here in off-topic rather than in the other cars section cause it will get more views here. I was affraid the other section would nto amount to the info I was looking for.

on the 97-01 Prelude's what is the difference between a regular one and an SH? Didn't some of those have the Rear Wheel Steering? are they all the 2.2 4cyl?

there's some good info on this page, if you didn't check it already.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Prelude

I still love this gen. of Prelude. WAITING for Honda to bring the Prelude back.

1st. There should'nt be any 4ws on 97-01. They only came out from the earlier model.... ( i might be wrong on this)

2nd. SH is prettymuch the same as our VDC where brakes are applied to the inner wheel upon spirited driving on the corners/hairpins. however, SH applied torque to the outer wheel in comparisson. Acura/Honda claims this to be better in terms of racing because no braking is applied, that slows down the car, during cornering --- too much problem and too much to fix.

3. 97-91 are all 2.2 vtec however manual have 200 while automatic have 195ish.

exodus.

In 1987, Road & Track published a test summary that shows the 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS out slalomed every car of that year, including all Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches. It went through the slalom at 65.5 mph (105.4 km/h), an amazing result for the time. For reference, the 1988 Corvette took the same course at 64.9 mph (104.4 km/h).

That is just amazing to me. I had a 90si 4WS and a 91si.

I have actually owned 6 hondas. (87 CRX si, 88 & 94 Integra LS's and my TL) well, 7 if you wanna count the CBR 954 I had for my first track bike.

If you plan on modifying the engine, def. do NOT get the SH. Just get the base model and it will save you lots of troubles when you modify the H22.

Anyone who prefers the '97-'01 SH to the previous generation VTEC... sheesh

To be honest I am looking for a decient vehicle (honda) to drive to work and back. I am not really into my TL, and I plan to sale it soon. I want something that already has some miles on it (100k) so that my 100 miles a day wont make a difference. Modding is the least of my concern. i wil probably do Tein springs and put my 19's on it, but I have no desire to try to make a 4cyl fast.

wut. no. shhhhhh now.
Honda still uses the basis of the ATTS system... ever driven an RL? Great system, great idea, great results.

97-01 were rated higher with hp, but ultimately the 94-95 VTEC's were the fastest(96 too, but they swapped to the OBDII system). My '94 VTEC ran 14.70's bone stock. Before I was done I was knocking on the door of 12's N/A with a full interior.

I'd always recommend (if it's been taken care of) getting a Prelude. The H22 is a wonderful motor. I have 3 in my garage.

There were a handful of differences between the base and SH models. I had an SH and loved it. The ATTS was the main difference as the engine was the same. That thing handled great and I never had any issues with the ATTS unit itself. It's basically just big box that they cram in there that transfers the torque to the outside wheel around corners, so the engine bay is pretty tight. I'm sure you know this but all SH models are 5-speed, kinda like the S2k. Also, the rear deck is different as it does NOT have the rear brake light incorporated because all SH models have a spoiler. Also, the SH have accessory lights on the bottom of the door panels (minor, but different). I loved my prelude but as with the G, there are oil consumption issues. I made the mistake of supercharging and it went downhill from there. I wanted more power but I ended up wasting lots of money. Before I did that, it was such a reliable car. As mentioned before, the weight of the prelude does make it a little slower then the 92-96, but its definitely a fun car. I've debated getting another one. I had a 98, bought it at 60k miles, supercharged around 105k, sold around 125k.

So if you're interested in a lude, just look for the oil issue. Honda states that burning a quart every 1000 miles with that car is acceptable (right). Also, the timing belt tensioner tends to fail every 60k miles or so, which can be pricey if you don't do it yourself.

Any other questions let me know. I did all my own work (aside from the supercharger) so I know the ins and outs of those cars. I'm not mechanic but I spent tons of time under the hood. I love the G because it's so low maintenance, and that supercharger was nothing but a headache.

I appreciate all the info Todd and Coupaloop.

I am looking to get one for a cheaper daily driver, just as soon as I can sale the TL. I don't plan to do any performance mods at all. Tint, my 19's and maybe some Tein springs.

One more question... Do the 97-01 Preludes have the 4ws option?????
